Servicing Intervals

Hello all

My names Mark, I'm looking at buying a E92 M3 Coupe from a BMW dealership.

The models I've seen so far that I like are as follows:

57 Plate / Jerez Black with Black Interior / 45k
57 Plate / Silverstone with Black Interior / 37k
08 Plate / Red with Black Interor / 14k

What are the servicing intervals for E92 M3? how do they compare to the old e46 with the Insp I / Insp II style periods.

How long do the brake discs / pads last for before replacing? I don't want to buy one of the cars above and find these need to be replaced 5k into ownership.

What's the best colour? I like Jerez Black as it looks aggressive, Silverstone looks subtle and the red looks sporty. Views?

Thanks all.....

Hey Mark, check out my car, it's for sale and has really low mileage. A good price also:

Hi Mark

All the servicing is condition based with none of this inspection I/II stuff.

You'll need to check the iDrive for all of the service interval stuff (inc brakes).

The 3rd service (usually around the 28/30k mark) is pretty expensive at around £1k (main dealer), as it includes plugs, diff oil an a few other bits.

I've got 45k on mine with the original pads & discs.

Thanks ...interesting about the servicing at around 30k. Might look for a car with this servicing already done.

I'll be doing 13k miles per annum. What are you thoughts on the M3? has it been reliable?

Thanks Ian. I'm looking for an approved used car. Never owned an M series so want to make sure i'm covered for eventualities.

Good luck with your sale.

I've had the M for 2 years now and have only had a software update and rear suspension arms changed (under warranty).

From hanging around the forums a bit too much (apparently), there do not seem to be any common faults with e9x. These seem to be very reliable, however extended warranties seem to be a must, as if something does go wrong, it can be quite expensive.

Thanks Ed335d

What's the software update for?

What symptoms did you experience to have the rear suspension arms replaced?

The iDrive was incredibly slow when scrolling through tracks on an iPod, instantly fixed by the update.

I felt no symptoms, but 'excessive play' was picked up during a routine service. I was always a bit dubious about it, but it was covered by the warranty, so I wasn't so worried!

Hi Mark,

Go see the cars and on the idrive system look up the car service status and it'll tell you all you need to know about how long it'll be before pads need replacing and service etc. but be aware the numbers will only reflect the previous owners style of driving so they may be required earlier although it'll show up anything required soonish. If buying AUC then get them to set out anything imminent before agreeing to purchase. Good luck!

I love Silverstone II as its subtle - I like the wolf in sheeps clothing thing about it.

Am I right in thinking Silverstone II is the only colour limited to the M3?

Hi Mark. I have a 57 plate in Jerez black / fox red. I had the big service at 32k which cost £800. Other than that I had the battery replaced last winter (fairly common if not driven every day). I had the diff oil changed to the special one which sorts out the grinding noise in tight turns. I changed the windscreen as it suffers badly with pitting. Had Autoglass do it and it's perfect. Other than that no issues. Now got 38k. No sign of brakes needing doing yet. I use my daughter's polo a lot for going to work etc to keep the costs and mileage down (thinking of getting a sticker for the M3 "My other car's a Polo). I have the black grills (essential) and an Eisenmann Race exhaust (the std one looks gastly).

I had my '08 E92 M3 Coupe Jerez Black/Fox Red for nearly 3 years. Sold it last summer.

I had no problems with it at all. The 3rd service (around 32K miles) is expensive at around £800 (main dealer). My car had done 43K when sold and still had the original pads/disks with I-drive showing another 9K miles before they needed changing.

All in all very reliable!

I've had mine for 4.5 years. No problems to report.

Every 30k it needs an expensive service as the spark plugs need replacing so as other's said expect to cost around £800 at the main dealer or around £500 if you can find a good independent.

Mine is at 39k and the rear pads are getting thin. Front's still have a large wedge left.

In light of all the positive information, have you made a descision yet?

I think my preferred choice is Jerez Black with Red but I can't find any within my price range.

The choices I have are Alpine White and Black or Jerez Black with Black.

Out of the two I prefer the Alpine White.

What do you reckon guys? shall I go with the white? or wait.....

White ones seem to be fairly rare! There are a lot of high spec Jerez black/fox red 57 plated cars out there, as these were the original dealer demo cars when the e92 first came out (mine being one of them)
