LOL, same here!! I used it on the day of my delivery just for kicks of a trying the new feature. My wife was riding shot gun when I hit stop n go traffic on the dreaded I95-N. IN a period of about 5 mins my car went on/off about 10 times. There was one car next too us, and the driver looked over and smiled. I felt kinda embarrased and my wife who didnt know about the feature told me that It would be ok after a few days of getting used to driving 6mt again.

I've pushed the button to see how it works and I can't seem to get it to work at all on my car. Checked the manual and didn't see what I might be doing wrong. Oh well, not like I'm going to use it really.

So you can't set it permanently one way or the other in iDrive? Sucks for Australian's it's just one extra button to press every time.

Yeah can totally see this. Or if you have loud exhaust, someone's gonna think you're revving your engine at them.

But like most emerging car technologies, people will eventually catch on. Remember back in the late 90s when Lincoln came out with HIDs and everyone would flash their lights because they thought they left their high beams on? Shoot done places people still do hehe.

Thus feature is useless. Destroys your ignition/starter. My new cayenne has the same thing and I will never turn it on. If you want to same a few buck and the environment... Buy a VW golf Deez or Prius

I dont want to save that little gas and get my starter screwed up. My starter costs way more then the gas i can save even though i drive for 100,000 miles.

I think whatever fuel you save from start/stop will go straight into a new starter.

When my car was built, I missed the Start/Stop feature by a production week. ---Thankfully.

Change your driving style for a week and save 3% on your MPG.

Does anyone know who makes the starter - I need to but stock in the company.

I think that all of this worry about starters is misplaced. The same issue exists for hybrids only much worse as they cycle their engines on and off much more frequently. We haven't heard about any problems with the Prius starter. I would be very surprised if all of these cars haven't put in a beefed up starter.

I bet the Honda starter is a whole lot cheaper to replace after your warr. is up.

I'm sure it is but that's not the point. If it doesn't break it's not more expensive is it?

Hybrids do not have a traditional starter like non-hybrids. The electric dc motor just spins the engine over to start it. Not a regular starter. Thus that is why we have not heard of starter failures in the Prius.

M3 on the other hand most likely does use a traditional starter since its a non-hybrid.

First day I had my X5M I had no idea what was going on with the car because this function was on. Have not used it since and think it's pointless.

I know, I know. I'm just poking fun at the concept of start/stop on an M3.
