I'm almost ashamed to post the pic below but I took this yesterday (1/10/13). I took delivery on 11/30/12. I took the pic to send to my brothers because they are 311 fans. Anyway, it reminded me that I need to go drive this sucker. I got to 1200 in my 2009 M3 very quickly but now I have a truck as a 2nd vehicle, and with holiday trips and plenty of rain days here in Houston recently, it's been getting a lot of the driving time. I plan to take some long weekend drives in the M3 soon but the weather isn't cooperating this weekend, either.

You don't waste any time do you? 600 miles in 6 days?

My ED 08 took 8-9 days to get 2400 miles across Germany/ Switzerland/ France/ Italy. Then the 1200 mile service north of the ring, then the BMW club school at the ring, great time. Unfortunately, ring management/ mismanagement has precluded the school from happening the past several years.

Had mine in for service at 900 miles. Dealer was happy enough to do it at 900. 1200 miles is not a hard rule.
I do not personally believe the break-in period is based on anything but tradition but as an enthusiast that changes cars often I respected the break-in restrictions out of respect for my car's future owners. |

You can get your kicks on the track ... BTW ... Public opinion on this is about 50/50 so let us hope there is no change.

OP ... mine was around 3 weeks after delivery ... new owners should also check the manual that after the 1,200 miles (2,000 KM) one should still be gentle for a spell ,,, see screen shot form the on line electronic manual below.
BTW I keep a copy of the ///M3 electronic manual on my iPad (very handy).
