I would guess that one of the more difficult things to extend would be memory. If you replaced old brain cells with new ones, wouldn't the memories go with them? That may not be a bad thing.
I'm pretty sure the telomeres protect the ends of the DNA from degradation during successive replication cycles...so yes, you are right.

If we could alter their genetic makeup such that they are not altered during replication, or even lengthen them, maybe we could slow aging....

I'm sure there is a bunch of research out there on this. If you are interested you should check it out.

+1. I'm a supporter for immortality. the posibility for human advancement is endless. the last thing we should be worry about is running out of resources.

it would be cool if we can live forever and see human advance to space, colonize everything, star war, etc haha

I enjoyed his book, "The Singularity Is Near". Interesting read and thought provoking...

Screw immortality. The only good point somebody had in this thread is the possibility of space travel if you had a longer life span. Now that's badass!

i believe Brad Pitt said it the best in the cinematic masterpiece....TROY "the gods envy us, because we are mortal. Everything is more beautiful, because we are doomed."

Eternal life will be very beautiful. Until then, life extension sounds good. I'd take a few centuries for myself. I am not doomed.

exactly. this lead me to think most people who want to die must have a miserable child hood or something, lol

for me, it would be awesome if I can live and stay young around 30 years old forever. f as much women as you like, ride as many cars as you like, see exactly what human future will be like, etc. so many interesting thing to see.

immorality would take away the whole reason why people "LIVE." the best part of life is knowing your not going to be here forever, which gives people the reason to "go big or go home" or "live it up" and enjoying the finer things(and little things). it pushes the individual to achieve ones potential in life. How embarrassing would it be that you set a goal for yourself and 200 years later its still not achieved?
