New GoPro + New (to me) M3 / Sebring Raceway = this thread

Here's some footage from Sebring last Saturday. First time out in the M3, and what an amazing blast this car is. Coming from my 240hp M coupe, the power was just ridiculous. I was often shocked to see 120+mph where I can just get to 100mph in the mcoupe.

I was running ATE Typ200 and PFC01 pads. The pads smeared a bit in the first session and the right front was actually smoking when I came in. I had MDM on for half a session, not sure if that was it. I was able to get some cold braking done in the next session and pretty much cleaned the rotors. The tires were AD08 255/35-285/30 18's on ARC-8 18x9.5/10.5.

This video was in the last green session of the day. I was leaving right after this session and usually don't run in this group. I just couldn't get enough and kept going out for me. Unfortunately my student's car broke int he second session so I had more free time than usual.

What a blast this car is. Not sure what I would want to do next to the car. I'm heading back to Sebring in June with Chin again, VIR in August.

Oh...sorry about the lack of editing on the video...I'm using a loaner laptop without quicktime pro.

Great camera angle and nice video. I need to make the trek to Sebring sometime. It appears that the camera is suction cup mounted to the bottom of the sunroof? I have a gopro and suction cup on a car without sunroof and can't figure out a good spot to put it because the outside of the car has no exhaust sound or steering wheel action.

I mounted my GoPro directly on the windshield using one of those 3M sticky mounts supplied with the camera. The GoPro is mounted behind the rear view mirror, so it has no impact on my field of view. I leave the sticky mount permanently on the windshield.

The view is pretty decent, as you see the hood , but you do not see the driver in action though .

Yeah I suction cup mounted mine to the CF roof (was worried at first but saw an M6 do it first ha). The view is pretty good but there is zero exhaust noise at speed and I want to see driver inputs. OP's vid angle is ideal.

On cars with no sunroof and no harness bar to mount the camera on, consider a Short Bar Mount:

If you have a GoPro, this mount looks pretty cool:

Hey CanAutM3,

I would like to start learning.

But would be too scared to track the M3 first. Will see what I can do... (another car). Thanks!

Yes...it's mounted to the very back right corner of the sunroof.

Thanks to all for the kind comments.

I forgot to mention that my left knee was actually bleeding from the stitching on the door pocket. I'm going to use a soft knee pad next time.

Also...I think my M mode triggers Sport+ throttle and I think I'll dial that back to sport or normal. Blipping the throttle seemed odd at times and powering out of corners had me thinking I was at full throttle when there was more to go. Probably because my brain wasn't adapting to the non-linear throttle response.

I kept forgetting I wanted to try different camera angles. I think having it on the back left door window might look cool...kinda over my left shoulder.

For those who contemplate coming to Sebring...you must come down. The track is as fun as possible with 0 elevation change. The grounds are world class...not country club world class...racer's world class. Chin puts on an awesome event....highly recommend them.

A lot of people find Sport+ throttle response just too abrupt.

Not sure if you mean inside the car or outside, but after running for a while w/ my Contour camera mounted to the right side of my helmet (video has great field of view, but can't see the hands/steering wheel very well), I recently started mounting it on the outside of the back left door window (decent view of what's up front, as well as the hands/steering wheel).

And, a GoPro below the bumper captures the engine sound, as well as upshifts/downshifts, very loudly.

Julie. It would be a shame if you do not bring out your new car to the track. The real attributes of the car are pretty much unexplored till you use it as it in its intended envoirment.

Yeah, i know. An E9X belongs on a track like a fish in water.

Eventually.

Off to check out the helmet thread....

Do you have any footage from the gopro there? I could sticky mount mine there, that seems like a good option.
