I actually like BMW dealerships a lot more now....

After going to some Honda and Volkswagen dealerships I have grown to like BMW dealerships a lot more now....

I have seen a lot of idiots at BMW dealerships (including a service guy that drilled the front bumper of a 335i that was there for service) but some of the guys at Honda and Volkswagen are on a whole different level......

Honda:

I was asking about a Civic Si and they had one with dealer added mud flaps and tints, asked the sales guy if they have one without any of those added BS and he started talking for 20 minutes 'educating' me how you must have mud flaps and tints in Texas....

Some other guy wanted $2K above sticker for the Civic Si claiming it's a limited edition car....

The third guy was telling me their price for the Si is $22150+TTL the whole time, then when I asked fro OTD price he said they already added dealer accessories and it's gonna be $25700 OTD, and kept on saying everyone should know accessories are part of the TTL he mentioned....

Volkswagen:

Friend ordered a new Beetle, after waiting for a month and half he found out the dealer drilled the front bumper for plate brackets even she told them not to drill when ordered the car, when she decided to f*** it and go to another dealership the sales guy was yelling at her.

Then it was some other sales guy claiming how the new GTI is a limited production vehicle and called me 5 times within two hours after I left the dealership, trying to push me for a deposit....

I know Honda and VW are more driven by volume then BMW but some of these guys are treating you like complete idiots and refuse to listen to the customer...the level of their arrogance is pretty unbelievable....

The guy that puts the fun back into car buying is going to make A LOT of money.

I've had similar experiences at Honda dealers. Not sure why, as Honda builds an excellent car that just about sells itself. The problem with VW is that they think they're BMW or MB. They're neither. They're the German General Motors.

I feel ya man. Especially the guys at Honda dealerships. I was this close to buying an Accord V6, walked out thanks to the worst car sales person I'd come across anywhere.

Yeah my roommate had awful experiences at a Subaru dealership, sales guy being incredibly arrogant and cocky about even looking at a 2015 WRX as if it was a Ferrari.

He took my recommendation in getting a 2015 Audi A3, he was treated with respect and 100% no pressure sales approach, just educating him on the features of the car, different trims, etc etc.

He couldn't be happier. Amazing how many sales dealerships lose just by acting like they're high and mighty. Ironically, I've always been treated with respect in luxury dealerships, you'd think the opposite would be true.

Try buying a car in this country without balls. The shit that was told to me was unreal. Too many times I got told that a female can't drive a manual, to pick a color while men handle the specs, and one said outright that okay little lady, go home and cook, let the men handle the important things in life. The funniest thing was when I emailed them, no answer given if the mail was sent in my own name, the alias Mike got a return every time.

It was a huge culture shock, I'm from a place where penis is not a required shopping tool, and it's commonly accepted that men and women can do most of the things as well.

You're already quite lucky to be able to voice your opinions on the internet lady. The only thing you should know about cars is how to wash them, ok maybe not even that because you might somehow scratch it and find a way to F it up.

jk...or am I?

Haha, I would never, since I know my rightful place between a fist and a stove.

... Yes, I was. Most of the men I've met in my life are more girly than I, and rarely any of them are as badass as I. That said, let it also be mentioned that cooking is my thing. A man can do the cleanup part.

Oh, disclaimer forgotten: second day in a row when my dear mother contacted me before coffee. This is the worst way to spend a morning.

Some dealers are just awful.

I helped my sister shop for a commuter. She had one offer from a Hyundai dealership on an Elantra GT. Not only were they offering her $2k less on her trade than everyone else in town, but get this, tried to charge her back for the sales tax savings on the trade value deduction. Yup. $500 line item they wanted her to pay to the dealer for the sales tax on her trade. The amount that is NOT due to the state (or anyone) because of the trade-in value deduction loophole. I've never heard of that before, and that's absolutely abhorrent.

They also had a $600 "reconditioning fee" on her trade (WTF? isn't that part of the trade in offer value?), $1500 worth of dealer installed bullshit on the car itself (window etching, teflon paint sealant, window tint, i.e. $300 worth of stuff), and were only selling it at about $1k below MSRP, which was still another $1500 more than she ended up paying.

She went to another Hyundai dealer across town. They paid about $3k more for the trade (~$1k more than anyone else in town after she got 3-4 written offers), didn't try to tell her to pay the sales tax savings, and sold the car at $1500 less (I think several hundred under invoice).

Every dealer you get will be different, and I don't see a correlation with the brand cars they sell and how much of sleazy scum sucking fish they are.

Same goes for Subaru in town. Two dealers. One throws events for the local Subaru club twice a year, buys them all pizza and hands out tons of free schwag, gives them great deals on sales and service (20% parts discount which is better than any website and 10 or 15% hourly service labor). The other ones does the scum sucking fish routine. *shrugs*

Haha.

BMW doesn't do manuals. Manuals are being banned, Go get the hubby so we manage the technical details while you pick a color, oh, that car is as pretty as you, you would look so cute in it...

Hell will freeze over before my toys will be touched by anyone else than me, and for crying out loud, the only thing the hubby drives is his bicycle. I'm not even joking, he's driven less than 40 miles this year all together.

Dude, this! The guy wasn't a dick or anything, but when I asked about a WRX he starts talking like its the holy grail, and impossible to find. He said all the turbo Subaru's are rare and hard to come by. Maybe it's because I pulled in the lot in a Mitsubishi Evolution X? haha But I would have thought he should at least peg me as a serious buyer and work with me. It was not so, I left and never set foot in another Subaru dealer since.

I suppose I should also give my BMW dealer props. My experience at BMW of Manhattan was great. My CA was a great help, very fair with the price from the start, and ended up taking off more when I asked about a special going on during production, and then took off more when they drilled plate holes that I did not want (Which they completely fixed on their dime btw). I should say he IS a great help because he told me to always call him directly first with any questions about anything.

Compared to my experience with Mitsubishi. I had the car in to fix a TSB for hood latches that were breaking. The technician who wears his keys hanging off his pants, put deep scratches in my side skirt (I had the full aero kit) while he was laying on the door sill working on the latch under the dash. So I complain, and they did repaint the piece, but I could tell that same punk keyed the shit out of my center cloth armrest. I could see circular marks all in it, exactly like what a key would do. So this little bitch gets pissed off at me because I complained about him scratching the shit out of my brand new car (the most expensive car that shit dealer sells). Nut job.

The sales tax savings was one of the BS one Honda dealer pulled on me, they low balled the car's value and then included the tax saving as additional value for the trade in and try to make it look like I'm getting more for the car because of that.

I'm not sure if there is a correlation between the brand and how bad the dealers are, but generally speaking the most of the sales people at BMW, Cadillac, and Porsche are OK and haven't try to BS me like I am an idiot, but that's what I get all the time at Honda.

Toyota is a little better than Honda, at least I have seen some decent sales at Toyota, but pretty much none at Honda so far.

One Honda dealer called me and I told the guy I'm looking for a Civic Si Sedan in Red or Orange ONLY, and he kept on saying they have a Black Coupe and how awesome it is and wanted me to go into the dealership and put a deposit on it

And I have seen a dozen idiot sales at Honda asking me if I want a 4 door or 2 door Si AFTER I said sedan.

I generally prefer dealing with the internet department guys at dealerships now since they usually have a better idea of what's going on and usually got a better attitude.....at this point I don't expect any fun in buying a car anymore but at least don't treat people like their are f***ing idiots....

If one dealership try to BS me on trade in or other crap at first, I would avoid them as that indicates they will try to scam you anyway possible, and not do business with them unless they come up with a deal that's significantly better than other places...which usually won't happen lol

Honda's got the worst sales people I have dealt with in pretty much any industry....it's like none of them understand that sedan means 4 door, and 'I'm only looking for Red or Orange exterior' means I don't want Black.....they don't even bother checking what they have coming in

VW....I don't know how I feel about their cars, I think some of their cars are less reliable than GM's....and tons of them are being made in Mexico...but most VW dealership people I have seen so far are a little better than Honda.

My BMW buying experience was the worst I've ever had. I called on a Monday concerning the car and got heavy pressure to come and see it ASAP (I informed them up front I was an out of town buyer). The car was advertised as CPO and ready-to-go. The first guy I got on the phone was a retard. I couldn't understand him for shit his English was SO bad. So I did what any smart buyer would do and called back, explained my situation to another person and got to work with them on the deal. Again, pressure to come see the car ASAP despite my repeating over and over again to them that I would not be able to come till Saturday that week. To make matters worse, the other guy I talked to first wouldn't stop calling and texting me trying to make the deal himself. Both of the people I was dealing with kept repeating that they couldn't guarantee the car would still be there Sat. despite my offering to put money down on it to hold it several times. So after that, I just kept saying over and over again that I was fine with the risk and would monitor their website to make sure the car was still there by Friday. Sure enough, it was. I called Friday and, all of the sudden, the car's, in fact, NOT through certification yet. Really???? Whatever, I told them I was still coming and had more than one car to look at while I was there. They insisted they would push it through that day and have it ready for me Sat.

Me and my buddy drove to Houston on Fri. night and got to the dealer at 11:00 AM Sat. for my scheduled fucking appointment. They were packed with people running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Clearly disorganized and probably understaffed for the volume of customers they have. The receptionist was the ONLY nice person in the place, but as predicted, I was nowhere on any sort of schedule. When we finally got a salesman after an hour of waiting, I was informed that he would be representing the idiot I first spoke to earlier in the week and the woman I wanted to handle my sale I had been speaking with was nowhere to be found.

We started hammering out numbers while a guy did a brief walk around of my Audi (he didn't even test drive it). They were slow as shit during this whole process (another hour and half) and we couldn't agree on numbers with the sales guy nor the sales manager. We finally got fed up and left to go down to BMW Clear Lake to test drive the non-M Sport I had my eye on, too. That dealership was MUCH better, but unfortunately the car broke on the test drive. I rounded a corner (not even pushing it) and hear a loud pop and metal clanging sound. The car was making a NASTY grinding noise as I pulled it into a shopping center parking lot. The sales lady was panicking at that point and I had to be the one to calm her down as I explained what probably happened to the suspension of the car (I have a lot of experience with this stuff and how to handle "broken car" situations). Yeah, NOT good considering this was a CPO car. We got a ride back to the dealer and I was just DONE with that day. Got back to the dealer, explained to my buddy what happened (he wasn't really happy at that point either), and we just got in the car with me driving us toward the quickest route out of the city headed for home.

My buddy leaned over to me and said "Do you want that fucking car or not?". I said "Yeah, but not from those fuckers." He said, "Well, you're gonna go back home and we're going to have to search again for a while to find that particular car again...the one you really fucking want. Let's go back there and you just let me do me." He sold cars for over a decade. We went back, he asked for the sales manager only, and we proceeded to do numbers with just the sales manager. After my buddy negotiated the shit out of these asshats, we made a deal. Then, my buddy had to do the finance calculations for the damn incompetent finance manager. They were either inept at numbers or trying to screw me, but my buddy wasn't having any of that shit. We said eff it to the CPO certification since they were claiming we'd have to come back later that week to get the car. We bought the covers-all aftermarket EasyCare warranty and headed home with my new-to-me BMW 135i M Sport at 9:00 PM.

So I got home, discovered the front driver's wheel was bent, but thank God they agreed to pay for that. The purchase was third week in April. It's June 20th and I am on my second set of dealer plates...

Both of the people I were dealing with kept repeating that they couldn't guarantee the car would still be there Sat. I just kept saying over and over again that I was fine with the risk and would monitor their website to make sure the car was still there by Friday.

The sales lady was panicking at that point and I had to be the one to calm her down as I explained what probably happened to the suspension of the car (I have a lot of experience with this stuff and how to handle "broken car" situations. Yeah, NOT good considering this was a CPO car. We got a ride back to the dealer and I was just DONE with that day. Got back to the dealer, explained to my buddy what happened (he wasn't really happy at that point either) and we just got in the car with me driving us toward the quickest route out of the city headed for home.

We bought the covers-all aftermarket EasyCare warranty and headed home with my at 9:00 PM.

So I got home, discovered the front driver's wheel was bent, but thank God they agreed to pay for that. The purchase was third week in April. It's June 20th and I am on my second set of dealer plates...
Did this happened at the Momentum BMW on Hwy 59 by any chance? I have never bought a car from them but went to their used department to test drive a X5 last year and the used car guys are clowns...the new car sales and service guys are a lot better tho.

Yes... The way I see it, they owe my friend a check for selling the car for them and subsequently me a check for selling my former Audi for them.
