Doh, my PSS 295 19's are rubbing :(

I just installed Michelin pilot super sport 295 19's on my RAC's (+22 offset) in the rear and they unfortunately rub the inside of the fender on high speed dips. Not much, maybe as little as half a centimeter. Car is also lowered.

What are my options...

1. Adjust camber, give it an extra 1 to 1.5 degrees on the rear? Band-aid fix with 25%+ worse tire wear?

2. Try and roll the fenders...risk paint damage?

3. Tuck my tail in and go back to PS2's 285s...Michelin does have a 30 day satisfaction guarantee.

I'm really surprised that 285/30/19 is the only size the PSS does not seem to come in...what's the reasoning behind it?

Which would you do in my shoes...any alternatives I have not thought off?

Are you running coils or springs? If coils then just raise the car a TINY bit, like you said it's only rubbing by half a centimeter maybe even less..

I thought I read that this could compromise the strength of the wheel... maybe I'm wrong but I'm sure I read that somewhere.

...no coilovers, just springs.

I've never heard of having the back of a rim milled down...

Had the same problem with Pirelli PZeros on HRE P40's. I opted for the 285's, but have worn that set out. When i was looking at the PSS I was advised that I could shave a small portion of the outer aspect of the tire where the rubbing is occurring.

I am going to try and stall one more year on replacing the tires. Seeing that they just brought in the 265 size that everyone has been looking for, I am hoping that they will have the 285 by next year.

What amazes me is how some have been able to fit 305/19's in the rear without rubbing.

persian54,

No idea what the camber is @ right now. Its factory whatever it is...I think they run 1.5 to 1.75 neg out of the factory?

I'm tempted to just do the Michelin 30 day money back guarantee...but what tire to get if not the PSS. I'm over the PS2's price...@ nearly $500 for a 285/30/19!

Does anyone know a good alignment shop in Orange County to get the camber adjusted? As I mentioned its only the outside of the tire rubbing...less than half a centimeter to have it clear I think. I just can't bring myself to risk the paint by rolling the fenders.

I had a similar issue with my RACs and AD08s in 295/30 (might even be a little wider than the PSS.) I wound up going to -2.0 rear camber and I no longer have rubbing. I am not lowered but looks like I have the room to do so if I wanted to. Don't roll your fenders, ghetto on this car. And for God's sake don't mill down the pad...

I'm assuming you're on 295/30/19? Also what springs are you on?

I think your best bet is to run a little more camber or to just live with the very slight rubbing. If it's minimal I wouldn't really worry about it.

I have a friend running 295/30/19 AD08s on a 10.5+22 wheel and he rubs very slightly in the rear as well. I guess you just gotta deal with the very slight rubbing to run those huge tires :P

Definitely roll the feeders before you do camber. Paint will be fine, have someone with experience and the right tool do it.

You can't really roll the fenders on these cars.......... Have you done it? Seen it done?

Yeah that's around where stock is

IIRC, you can go as much as -2.2

Get the alignment done and see how it goes and keep us posted

You would need to check to how much material the pad has. Some wheel manufactures get their offsets by pad thickness. 2-3 mils maybe able to come off the pad. I had this done on a set of Forgelines without any problems to get larger tires on a E46 M3.
Check with RAC.
