Anybody going to Colonial Challenge Cup 4/21 Summit Point?
Everyone,
I was wondering if there is anybody going to Summit Point (Main circuit) on April 21st for the Colonial Challenge Cup. Registration and info: http://www.colonialchallengecup.com/ http://www.colonialchallengecup.com/TrackDay.aspx I'm bringing along a couple of friends for their first taste of track driving. It'd be nice to caravan there.

I have no track experience, do you think this is a good way to start?

1. Summit Point Main is a simple track to learn (say compared to Shenandoah or VIR). 2. It's simple yet fast & fun, well suited to an M car. 3. It's nearby, about 1.5 hrs from the DC Metro area. 4. This particular event features the common-standard approach to track events: in-car instructors, run groups split on experience/speed, classroom instructions etc. And it's all neatly wrapped into just one day, in case you hate it or proves too tiring. If you like it (I've personally not met someone who hasn't, including my wife), then you can go onto other events throughout the year. But this is a good place to start.

I'll post the coordinates for a meeting place a few days before, in case there is someone else who wants to join.

From the entry form, it looks like you only get 4 laps, is that correct or am I looking in the wrong place?

Each session is 20 min which may not seem like much, but is quite sufficient especially in the lower run groups. Normally, the level of concentration required is quite high - many people can get shaky with adrenaline aftereffects after a particularly hot session. The longest I've seen a session go is 30 min and it can be quite tough on both drivers and cars. One interesting thing about this event is that there should be a large variety of cars on track (which you don't normally see at BMW or Porsche Club sponsored events).

quite a few places in the area do free tech inspections for track days; regardless of how old your car is, a brake flush would be a great idea.
