Iphone songs wont show up

I am wondering if anyone can let me know a tip to get our Iphones to sink up with the Tech Package. We have the USB in our 08 E90 and can't get the USB to be recognized to show the IPOD. If we use the audio jack the ipod plays through the sound system fine but will not allow us to scroll through the songs on the screen. The USB is powered because it will charge the IPhone/Ipod but wont recognize it for audio purposes. Anyone have any ideas?

So, i just got an iphone 3Gs. Tried to hook it up and idrive said the mp3 device was unavailable (or something to that effect). Unhooked the phone from the usb cable, strated playing a song in my playlist, and then hooked the cable back up to the phone... and voila! All the songs appeared on the idrive screen. Not a solution per se, but perhaps a work around?

Did you unplug the USB stick? My idrive on my 09 will only see one thing at a time. I have a dock for my iPhone which only will play music if I unplug the cable for my ipod from the USB and the headphone jack. The phone still works fine but just doesn't show up as a device for playing any music.
