Quiet Exhaust???

Sorry for another exhaust thread fellas. I know there are a ton. Anyways, I am looking for a pipe that is quiet with no drone. What would you guys recommend? So far it seems like AA and Fame Freiheit are the quiet ones. Any idea how much louder than stock these are? I am really interested in the Vorsteiner and Encore but are ti exhausts louder in general? I don't really want too much attention from cops and loud exhausts give me a headache.

I have heard the Eisenmann Sport in person and would say that it is the same volume as stock (maybe 5% louder at most), it just has a different tone (deeper). I would say that it is exactly the way that BMW SHOULD HAVE set up the stock exhaust for sound...I am thinking about buying one myself but actually wonder if it is too quiet.

Sounds like the Eisenmann sport is what I'm looking for. Its hard for me to pull the trigger when I know I can get a Ti exhaust for cheaper.

I've got the AA Signature. At 76 mph it's within 1 decibel of stock, when cruising. As the rpm go up it seems quieter. If you floor it at 2000 rpm it's about 3 to 4 dB louder. At cold start up it growls and grumbles about 3 dB louder.

I keep my windows rolled up when the wife is in the car. When I'm alone then I roll them down to hear a glorious sound. It's kind of like a cross between a 5.0 Mustang and a Ferrari 8 cyl, changing character as the rpm build.

In the stock exhaust there's a small resonance at 2,000 rpm which stays there with the AA, but doesn't grow. Beside, nobody in their right mind drives the M3 at 2-grand anyway, so that's a non-issue. The AA has no other resonant frequencies that stick out. It's a great product, IMHO.

If you want an exhaust that sounds great, not extremely loud (to avoid trouble) and no drone, I would say definitely consider the Eisenmann Sport Exhaust.

I have the Eisenmann Sport and I can't say enough how perfect it sounds. Gives a great moderate throaty tone, without catching the ears of the authorities and give you no drone in or out of the cabin. I never get sick of the beautiful tone (I've even rolled down the window in the middle of winter to listen to it) that comes out of my Eisenmann Sport, you won't be disappointed!

My Remus sport is only slightly louder than stock, however it defintely drone more than the stock at the low RPM. Btw are u in bay area? You can check out my setup if you want

REMUS SPORT is TUV approved, the sound is deeper due to altered sound frequencies but is not louder in terms of decibel output thus providing a great sport sound without obnoxious drone.

SS Street muffler is prob the quiestest muffler of the bunch. AA is def not what I would consider a quiet exhaust. It might not drone that much, but its def not quiet

My Bastuck gives a nice rumble down low, but then mellows out as the revs climb.

The makers need to post some decibel readings. The key points are at 2,000 rpm (the engine/exhaust natural resonance), 3,000 and 4,000 rpm, cruising and under load. The AA Signature, cruising is within 1 dB of stock at all those rpm. Under full throttle and load, then it's up 2 to 4 dB, depending on the rpm and load.

It's very easy to do, if you have a dB meter. I've got a Radio Shack. I wonder if the iPhone has an app, anybody know???

As for those saying stay stock. I have a problem with staying stock. I think it might be a personal problem. I guess a better description of what I'm looking for is a pipe that is tame when cruising and no drone on freeway. But comes alive when I get on it.

I'd say spend your money on something like the AA X-Pipe + Sports Cats and stick with the stock muffler.

A bit more expensive than an Eisenmann exhaust but will give you more bang for buck (there's a saying that 75% of the gains are made in the first 25% of the exhaust system). Exhaust gas velocity decreases the further down the exhaust system you go, meaning removing restrictions closer to the engine make the most benefit. Plus your car still looks stock...

I'm sure the above setup will be a bit louder than the factory as well. I've had cars before with aftermarket catback exhausts and believe me when you change out the stock downpipe/X-pipes, there is a noticeable increase in volume.

Yes the iPhone has sound meter applications although I doubt the microphone would have the necessary response for accurate measurements.
