See my comments at the bottom of this page after driving the S5

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...t=72926&page=3

There is no way that the S5 is as fast as an RS4, in fact having driven an RS4 less than a week before driving the S5, I found the S5's power delivery really dissapointing (no top-end pull). It sounds nice (although muted compared to the RS4) but just isn't truly quick, although feels swift if you keep the revs at less than 5000 rpm and just surf along on the torque.

The S5 is lighter then a rs4(around 400 pounds) and it also has short gear ratio's.....Maybe it can stay with a rs4 or maybe an m3 till 100mph....but after that....

I don't know where you are getting your info from but according to Audi UK there is only 25kgs (55lbs). Gearing isn't as short because the S5 only revs to 7000rpm instead of the RS4's 8250rpm, so while I love my S5 and rate it quite highly it is a world away from the either the M3 or RS4 in terms of outright performance.

Motor Trend was the only mag coming in this low. Everyone else I've read so far has the S5 running to 60 in somewhere between 4.8 - 5.1 seconds.

Damn, no one believes anyone without proof. Hmm, I just noticed on the s5, the manufacturer weight difference is quite high with the actual weight. It states that manufacturer weight and the real weight for S5 is, 3594 and 3807 pounds......and for the rs4, its 3957 and 3981 pounds.

Anyway , here are the links

Officially the RS4 in Europe was 1655kgs (I can't show link as it's now out of production) and the S5's official weight is 1630kgs.

http://ak4-uk.audi.co.uk/sat.do?mand...ories_details=

That is only 25kgs of difference, so unless the US cars are totally different in spec I can't believe it will weigh as much as you and Edmunds are saying.

Now can we discuss your other inaccuracies like the S5 having shorter gearing. You should away check all information before posting and the logical place to start is on an Audi web site.

The S5 from the Sportauto Supertest did weigh 1722kg / 3,796lbs.

Best regards, south

Then that proves I was right after all as Autocar or EVO (can't remember which) tested the RS4 a while back and it's weight was 1750kgs. That maintains roughly the 25kgs difference that Audi quoted, the extra weight difference might have been some optional extras on the RS4 over that of this S5.

P.S.

Also am I not correct in saying that Audi use a difference method of weighing their cars than either BMW or Mercedes who include something like 75Kgs (driver) + some fuel.

Indeed, I misread your post and thought you meant the S5. You're right that Audi's using a different method, I think they don't include the 75kg for driver and luggage.

BTW: Just found an old test of the RS4 sedan, the weight was 1721kg, so these cars are close in terms of weight.

Best regards and Happy New Year, south

Yeh, RS4's are different in USA. You could start by checking that on the Audi website.

Again, I have a source for what I am saying. I read it on this website. Please take your time reading the last paragraph on this page, maybe that will prove my inaccuracy!!!!

C&D estimated the RS4's weight at 1681kgs which was wrong and that it's weight balance was 55/45 front to rear again wrong. What is it with some US mags, why don't they get their facts straight.

Yeah, after reading their comments you assumed that because the S5's gearing was short that it was shorter than the RS4 but you should have checked the rev limit of each engine before commenting.

Rev limit? What's the rev limit gotto do with my argument. ..!
