You try tightening those screws that hold the black part on? Maybe loosen and try to readjust it?

Looks like those 4 little circles are pop in rivets? Maybe?

Not worth it, take to dealer or buy new replacements and change it all out. Can't leave it like that, honestly looks crappy sticking out like that , especially since your car looks so good bro.
The problem is if someone tried to yank it open, when locked , you could have a small bend somewhere that is not allowing it to line up. Will be real hard to find the exact location of the bend, Just my .02 cents.

There is a nut on RealOEM listed that connects that filler pipe to the body
Maybe that nut broke off or the filler pipe is loose
PN 51711958025
Other than that, from the diagram, it appears that the filler pipe connects to a rubber hose to the tank... probably not the issue.

There is a rubber seal against the back side of the filler pipe that is loose but doubtful.
PN 51177073961

You'll probably need to remove the rear wheel and fender lining to see the filler pipe.

Sorry, it's been so damn HOT lately, I haven't had time to work on the fix. Will update thread as soon as I am able to dig deeper.

Thread Revival.. I had some time today to investigate the issue further, and I was in the wheel arch replacing my wheel studs, so I started unscrewing the fender liner from the rear section first and from what I could tell, the area above the fender liner is SOLID. There is no access to the back side of the fuel filler from there.. Does this make sense?!

Found the part number for the fuel filler surround... Now if only I could figure out how to uninstall...

Update: was able to find a similar thread vaguely detailing how to remove the "cover pot"

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=677946

Will report back after attempting

Still trying to fix this issue. FML. It's turning out to be quite the PITA. I removed the fender liner to see if I could access it from the inside, but it's not possible, and I can't seem to figure out how exactly to remove the cover pot...

Indeed.

Haven't had much time to look into it further, but it looks like I need to first remove the locking mechanism, then simply pop out the filler surround.

Not sure if I'll need to purchase a new one or not... Kind of going in blind.

All I know for sure is that the black filler surround is not seated properly in place.

Ordered a new cover pot along with the nut that holds it in place. Hopefully will be able to finally get this thing fixed in the next week!

seems like a lot of time wasted that probably could have been covered for around $100 by someone who knows these cars (dealer/indy bodyshop).

but hey, who am I to say how you use your time...
