He did it for my 2012 update (I have a pre- 09/09 build car, had to do via DVDs).

Excellent guy.
Why did you have to do it via DVDs? Do you not have a usb in the glovebox? I also have pre 09/09 build with CIC nav and USB in the glovebox only?

My car is both pre-09/09 build AND had never had the software updated, hence the USB port in my glove box is non-functional for map data update. I've tried it numerous times in my car.

I think I figured it out, although a new question has come up.

I downloaded the CCC DVD ISO files.

There were 3 ISO files for East Region and 3 ISO files for West Region. Each file was the same 4.18GB

I burned the 3 East Files to 3 separate DVD's. (All I car about is East for now)

When I put them in the car it said "new navigation detected, turn system off for 5 mins". Okay, cool. Come back 5 mins later and everything seems to be working fine. I pop in the next disc, and nothing changes. Nav still works just the same.

Bascially, my question is: "Why are there 3 discs? (or 3 ISO files rather) when any one of the 3 DVD's seems to do the trick?".

Thanks in advance for your insight!

It's a multipart archive. When you extract part01 of either archive, it extracts part01, part02, part03 automatically for that archive, resulting in the ISO file to burn to disc.

So it's not three discs per region, you're basically extracting the same archive three times by trying to extract part01, then part02, then part03. You don't need to do that, the software is taking care of it for you.

Okay great. So basically, extracting any one of this files will get me what I need? FWIW, I have the 'Part 1' disk in right now. That includes everything?

There's two archives, East and West.

If you need East, just extract North_America_PROFESSIONAL_2014_Region_1_(East).pa rt1.rar, let it extract and then burn the resulting ISO image to a DVD.

If you need West, just extract North_America_PROFESSIONAL_2014_Region_2_(West).pa rt1.rar, let it extract and then burn the resulting ISO image to a DVD.

Just want to let you guys know if you need an FSC code -- see Dracon, the one he created for my 2014 CIC maps worked flawlessly and he generated it almost instantly.

Just came up from the garage. Disk 3 finished up, running 2014 maps now woot!

Do you need a new FSC code every time updating the map? Can you use the same FSC code for 2015 map as well?

FSC codes are VIN+Region+Year specific. So you would need a new code for 2015.

Quick question for the 2009+ version (CIC I think), which I downloaded (very quickly) using the torrent posted earlier. Once I extracted the RAR files, I ended up with 3 folders -- USB1, USB2, USB3. The instructions in the extract mention if you are working with a 32GB drive, copying the contents of USB1 to root, then once through, copying 2 to root, then 3.

I don't recall having to do that with the 2013 upgrade. I wouldn't care except copying this large number of files with the USB stick is kinda slow. Is there a way to avoid this copying, or is the torrented version split up differently than what kmarei posted last year for the 2013 version, or is my memory bad?

The version that was posted last year for 2013 didn't require this because it was taken from a retail USB version you buy in the parts department.

The 2014 version currently posted is from the 3 DVD/3 USB set given to service departments to load into the cars or load into their ISSS.

You can copy all three folders to the 32gb USB stick, then move the contents of USB1 to the root and start installation. When it asks for USB2, delete config.nfm and pkgdb, then move the contents of USB2 to the root. Rinse and repeat for USB3.

You don't need to copy USB1, update, then copy USB2, update, then copy USB3.

Honestly, this version is better in my opinion because people with 2009 model cars (like MMME30W) don't have to get a dealership update to upgrade to the latest maps (MY09 didn't have the ability to upgrade over USB without a software update from BMW).

It's just a little different. =)

Thanks for your quick response, and you are are correct, that is much faster (with the move instead of the copy), but I was trying to make the USB stick resusable for a friend. I guess I can just do that, and then reextract.

You could just move config.nfm and pkgdb back into it's original folder instead of deleting it.

Saves you from having to copy the files to the USB stick again.

Let me know if you or your friend need an FSC code, I'll be more than happy to help out.

How come the 2014 version is only ~16GB and the 2012 was ~22GB? I'm assuming you can go directly from a 2011 setup to a 2014 setup? Or do you have to install every year between?

Stupid question I'm sure but was wondering why the newer version is so much smaller than the old.

It's compressed with WinRAR, when you extract the archive the maps are ~23-24gb in size.

Compressing it helps it download faster and also helps people who are on metered bandwidth.
