Anybody own their own business?

Just curious as to how many people here own their own business. Im looking into starting something up to make some money on the side apart from my professional job. Just curious to see what some of you guys do and how you got started

I have a small antique business on the side, sell on ebay and in an Antique Mall. Gives me some extra cash, little slow right now though. Can bring large profits when you find the right items at auction.

My dad owns a business...if you really want to be successful you will have to put in 100% of your time and effort into it, and the rewards will be great (if your lucky).

My dad did as well. Still going after 15 or 16 years. Slowing down and semi-retiring. As well as building the "retirement" home which should be finished by the end of the year.

Especially the first 3-5 years are the most intense and time consuming. Expect to work a minimum of 80 hours a week. My dad usually worked 90-100 hours most weeks the first 2 years. Didn't take vacation for 5 years, and worked while extremely sick. Running 102 fever and full blown flu. That is of course if you are working for yourself and have no employees.

Good luck man. What are you looking at getting into?

Bicycle shop owner. Started by my Dad, and I took it over this year. It is a ton of work and I find myself working 50+ hour work weeks easily. Although we are getting to a point of having great help and getting some more time off and extra vacations.

Either way good luck with your decision.

Cheers,

SG
