Odd noise around 2,500rpm
I am hoping someone here may have experienced a similar issue and could point me in the right direction. I own a CPO '12 6MT e92 with around 26k miles that I just bought back in August.
Independent of the gear I am in, I am hearing a feint mechanical rattle/noise/rumble/knocking at around 2,500 to 3,000 rpm. It sounds like something isn't tightened properly and rattles about, perhaps something inside the transmission, linkage or the diff. There's even a little tangible feedback I feel in the shifter at that speed, too. When I shift out of gear, and merely rev to the same range, the noise doesn't occur. The noise is not overwhelmingly audible, but enough to drive me crazy. I took the car in a few weeks back and predictably, the technician that inspected and test drove the car said that everything's working as intended. I am tempted to get the car looked at by an independent shop to determine what is causing the noise, but then I don't know whether that's the right approach to take. Thanks all! |

Don't recall folks with bearing issue reporting the sound to be engine speed dependent. OP sounds like he hears the noise to the rear of the car, hence the comments about possible transmission/linkage/diff. Folks have reported issue with differential bolts...
