No need to have both, the M is a great daily driver.

Ehh yes and no

I know you don't buy a M for the mpg... but a great DD should have power+mpg

hence why, if you look at it this way, an iS is better

but then again, the $$ you spend on the iS as a second car is enough to buy gas for your M3 for years lol

I've been thinking of leasing a nissan or honda or something for $150-200/month.
Good for those trips I sometimes take to LA or OC...

I hear you... but to me, $25 to $50 a month more on gas (if that) is irrelevant when you spend $70k + on a car. I never understood why people worry about gas mileage, whether it is on their daily driver or not, when buying a performance luxury car. If mileage is even a factor in the decision, then an M3 should NOT be on someone's list.

I remember when I was buying my G37 coupe a couple of years back. I was in the showroom looking at the car and a stranger comes up to me and tells me I should avoid the car because it has poor mileage. I asked him what he was in to buy and he said a Sentra (it was a combine Nissan/Infiniti dealership). I thanked him but in my head I was thinking that he was absolutely buying the right car for him and just wouldn't understand why anyone would by a higher performance car as a DD.

Anyway, it would always be nice to get better MPG but it doesn't, IMO, factor at all in a car decision like this. If it does, the person is spread to thin financially or isn't really buying the car (M3 or otherwise) for the right reasons.

Having said all of that, the 335is does sound very nice. Much better than a 335i.

Saying it has good gas mileage is a bit of a stretch. It's just average. It's only good when compared to the M3.

It's a great engine when it's working. Between the HPFP, waste gate issues, fried turbo's and BMW cutting it's balls off with it's progamming to protect these parts, it has too many issues to be a great engine, IMO.
Then there's the issue with the lack of a catch can resulting in sludge build up on the intake valves. But, this goes back to BMW only wanting engines to last 100,000 miles.

As for the 335is, unless you REALLY want DCT, there's really no reason to get it. A cheap plug in tune will net you the same or more power and an exhaust is maybe $1,200. The sport suspension struts/shocks are on sale at Tisher for $180 shipped + some springs.

Uhhh....... do you have any idea how much additional gas you would have to buy in order to cover the added cost of owning a 335is as well????? Somewhere between $600-$700 a month

335is is a better daily driver period. M3 walks a 335is on a track all day and everyday. But who really goes to a track? What % of the population has ever even seen a track? I know that some here do track your cars and I respect that 100% and for you the M3 is the perfect car. Word.

Lol. Sure, you can get a tune that nets you the same or more hp as the iS, but it could create warranty issues for you at the dealership. The iS provides an alternative for people who want modest horsepower gain without voiding their warranty. Additionally, the iS adds nicer exhaust, second oil cooler and radiator (which helps with cooling if you track your car), the 313 wheels with ps2s, std m sport-- all those extras for $4 gs over a regular 335i. I'll concede the fact that the car is not for everyone, but to simply state that the car only offers modest hp power and better exhaust shows your ignorance about the iS-- you can at least educate yourself about the car before giving an opinion. Don't feel threatened, there's nobody here who says the iS is better than an M3 -- at least I don't think so or else I wouldn't have ordered an e90 m3.

Oh and this is my second bmw with the n54 engine and I've never had any of those issues you mentioned.

It's probably what his parents told him when they wouldn't buy him a M3

I'm curious about what makes a 335i or 335is a better daily driver as well. Besides the marginal gas mileage benefits (..I've averaged 19mpg from both of the E9X M3's that I've owned; I averaged 20mpg with my previous E46 M3's), they are on the same playing field. Both will require nearly the same amount of money to fill up the tank, but one is LOADS more fun to drive than the other. If I were looking for the most efficient daily driver, I sure wouldn't be looking at any BMW (...I'd probably opt for a Honda Civic HX, a car capable of 32-38mpg)

Funny that 9/10 members who previously owned 335/135 and who have since upgraded and actually OWN an M3 would disagree based on the threads I have seen. You are making an uneducated comment without having owned and lived with the M3 to compare the two. Typical really.

Stop trolling.

No of course you can spend all the time you want here. What I dont understand is why you trying to justifie your car in the M3 forum. Dont you have anthing better to do, fix a turbo? Mine is at the agent for another 2 weeks. Oh, and have you graduated from high school yet? Maybe the boosted 335 was your present?

sorry i think your way off on this. i heard one at my gym the other day and im convinced its one of the best sounding stock exhausts from the factory(excluding exotics and what not). i was shocked that bmw put an exhaust note like that on one of their cars. i could easily hear it up the street to the next stop light echoing in the gym parking lot

Read the above post and educate yourselves. This man speaks the truth in clear concise logic. I commend him for his rationale and hope he enjoys the hell out of his M3.
You guys for the most part are threatened by the iS and I cant figure out why.

Only reason I come up with is that its too close to the M3 for the amount of money they charge.
