OEM Exhaust Tip Mod

hi guys. i just picked up a stock e92 exhaust to do the OEM mod on for my e90. i dig the look of the EAS tips, but for $250, i need to save first. in the mean time, i modified the stock e92 exhaust tips.

i put the tip on a lathe and hit it with an angle grinder, shortening it and converting it from double wall to single wall. you could easily do this with just an angle grinder (if you have steady hands), a band saw, or many other ways. this would only work for e90 guys using e92 tips unless you don't mind them being a little shorter.

all four completed. i will post pictures when i have them installed on the car this week!

Hey, looks great man, really like the convert to single wall, much better looking than standard! And good work on the end of the pipes, obviously a must to not look homebrew...

Had the OEM mod mounted two days ago (was lucky to find an E90 used). What an awesome sound, all the way from idle and up! Stayed with 2-pipe which is IMO is loud enough, big difference but still with a quality and none drone sound.

Good luck!

PS. I guess the single wall may make the sound slightly more "hollow"? Shouldn't be an issue but curious to know if you have something to compare with - report back mate!

This is a really good idea, as I picked up an E92 OEM exhaust (ACM mod) for my E90 and knew I had to get new tips, but I'm going to try to cut them shorter now.

i'm picking my muffler up from the welder tomorrow!! my car is in for service right now, but i'll have the muffler painted and install the tips to welcome it home. is the 2-pipe mod the two perforated pipes?

as far as sound goes, i can't imagine there will be a noticeable difference between the tips since the sound is modified through the exhaust system itself before it leaves the tips. i would be happy to do a dB comparison between stock & modified stock if you're interested!

thank you! my tips from base to tip is exactly 6". i think this is a little bit longer than stock e90, but nothing drastic. since you're cutting them, you can go as short or as long as you want within the constraints!

Is there a reason why everyone likes the single wall better? Or is it simply a preference?

preference. these appear larger than the stock double wall tips, even though they have the same outer diameter.

thank you everyone for the kind words!

my car is still in having some dash rattles remedied. i picked up the muffler from the welder yesterday and painted it with high temp flat black paint. then i installed the new tips. they look awesome off the car! i can't wait to see them on the car when it's home.

ps. if anyone has that missing heat shield, let me know. i would be happy to buy it!

This would be a nice mod as well. Since i had the Eisenmann Race Black Series with connecting pipes. I think for my ACM mod i am now going to put on the EAS tips diffuser length with painted mufflers and Connecting pipes like the ER Series. To complete the overall look, a Vostiner rear diffuser.

I currently have 80MM tips from eas but they are stock length. Hence my car is a E92 so for E90 owners my tips should extend for them. for sale $100.00 mint (Only 2 months old)
reason for sale, I want a new look in the rear.

hi guys, sorry for the lag. the exhaust is mellow with zero drone when cruising and throaty and loud when on it. no noticeable difference in power, just looks better and sounds better.

here are a few pics while i wait for my roommate to shoot some better ones.

How the? How do the tip still sit flush with the bumper when you took what looks to be a couple inches off them? I think i'm confused..

Looks great btw! I prefer single walled to the OEM as well!
