Does it really take 1 month to sail?

Just got information from my CA on what ship my car is on. He said it's on the Eijin that departed on 9/13 and isn't expected at Port Hueneme until 10/13. Does it really take a full month? Everyone else on the board has said it takes around 15 days or so.

From Europe to the west coast? It's got to go through the Panama Canal...that is a long trip.

Merchant ships generally cruise at around 18-22kts, roughly 500 statute miles per day. Factor in a voyage nearly half way around the world, plus hurricane season in the Atlantic, plus canal transit, and you've got about a month to wait.

Three weeks is a fast trip from Germany to CA. My ship took three weeks with one stop in Baltimore and one stop in San Diego before Pt Hueneme.. Other ships will stop in Belgium, England, and usually one or more East Coast ports before going to CA. So yes...30 days isn't unusual. Sometimes the ships stop for maintenance or whatever and can be in a port for several days.

My boat (Bujin) left SouthHampton, UK on Aug 20th and reached Port Hueneme on Sept 13th. You should be able to track your ship on www.aislive.com in the Panama canal a week before it is expected to reach PH.

you can check out shipping schedules on the websites posted in the order tracking thread, well at least you can for the east coast website and all of them to the east coast were between 13-19 days.
