NYC Walking Tour

Overall a disappointing day. Just couldn't get into the groove today for some reason. Not very many keepers, and the few I have are so-so at best. But for what it's worth...

St. Bart's Church on Park Ave.

The rather imposing building directly across the street. As St. Bart's is a haven for the homeless, this building across from it, which exudes wealth, is rather ironic.

Short walk to Grand Central Station. This image had horrible CA, but I was able to correct it mostly.

The UN was a bust. The building was under heavy construction.

Thanks guys. The Grand Central one was taken with my new 85mm f1.8. Aside from the CA, it worked pretty well.

The one thing I didn't like about Grand Central was that every inch of balcony space was taken up by a restaurant. There was nowhere to stand up there and get a good shot unless you wanted to eat. And they were all very pricey places.

Thanks, Tim. We were just in the Time Warner Center last evening. I was wishing I had my camera as we came out of the Borders. I would have ended up with similar shots, I suspect. We'll be passing by there again tomorrow as we head into Central Park. Here's a few CP pics from previous trips.

My favorite stop in the park. Great Sangria.

You have some sick shots in your NYC album Tim.... I especially liked photos 1, 3, and 5 on the first page.

Saw an out of control carousel in Central Park today.

(Let it load.)

Yep. Four images put together using the trail version of Ulead's GIF Animator.

I should probably correct them all for lighting and such, but I'll do that later when I'm home and have the time.

We went walking in Central Park on Thursday. Great day for a walk. First thing we came upon was this jazz quartet. I don't like jazz, but these guys seemed to be pretty good.

I'm always impressed with the spaces in Central Park. Like big green cathedrals.

And the walkways...

Along the walkway we ran across this trio. Sort of a New Age Latino sound. I really liked it. I was thinking about buying one of their CDs. I regret not doing so now.

We stopped to listen for a bit and I grabbed these shots of my wife, Sarah. I do love this 85mm.

A bit further on we came upon this fountain.

And these flowers...

This artist was there talking to some woman who was admiring his work.

Later that evening we went to the Village for dinner and then I left Sarah at The Strand bookstore to browse while I walked up to Union Square to grab some images of the omnipresent crowd.

I wasn't the only photographer there.

There was this group of dancers there who were egged on by this tall guy in green tights.

And as always with NYC, the crowd was a target rich environment.

More to come...

Yes, except for the few shots that are obvious wide angle like the field and the walkway. The 85mm is almost the perfect walk-around prime, I think.
