How old is the unit? I would like to use it with SmartCord Live, but according to Escort's website, 8500 X50 older than 2008 may not work.

Don't know the exact age...but I think it's newer than 2008. I can call Escort and find out if you really want to know. I'll read them the serial number and I'm sure they'll be able tell.

I've personally never used the SmartCord Live feature...but it seems pretty cool.

I had the smart cord and I would not recommend it. Not enough users and they charge 50 dollars a year for the "service" of allowing you to see alerts created by other users.

The detector, otoh, is great!
