Audi RS5 US pricing announced at 68k

What are your thoughts? Any of you guys interested. I am thinking of switching my car for it.

Here is a review I thought I should share. Its a pre facelift RS5 but still a good review. The car is supposedly quicker than the M3 due to better traction.

If it had the new twin turbo v8 I would be very interested. Without it is it much slower than the new s8. I know the price point is very different but to have a saloon run 0-60 in 3.9 and the rs5 in 4.5 is a mistake in my opinion.

The issue with be very limited allocation. Most of the dealer ordered RS5's have an MSRP of (roughly) $80k. The sweet spot is $75k which includes base, nav and sports exhaust. With equipment level being the same, I suspect an M3 would be $6-5k less. This number would vary depending on incentives and/or ED delivery.

The RS5 is a compelling choice. A bit more exclusive compared to an M3 or even C63. For some, the combination of AWD and DSG (DCT in BMW speak) would be enough to say "no thanks". However, IMO, the styling both inside and out is very modern and appealing.

With all of this said I have already committed to an order for a MY13 M3 coupe. This one hit all of my "buttons", including performance, engine & exhaust sound, styling and content.

Last point. It will be very difficult to find an RS5 to test drive. There are enough M3's and C63's used or new to see which one is right for you. The RS5 would be more of a "see it" and "got of have it" decision.

Good luck with deciding.

I think Audi's are great cars but the performance figures for the new RS5 aren't that far off from the M3. You also have to remember that the M3 is going on 5 years of age ,so, I would hope Audi would bring some comp. to the table. I personally don't like the huge front grills that most of them have now but that's strictly my opinion. Audi's have a good quality build, nice interiors and are amazing in the snow!
Good luck with your decision

Yes with the TTV8 it would have been brilliant. I am disappointed that they didn't put it in the RS5.

RS5 will not be a threat to the M3, just like the last generation RS4 wasn't. It will just be a beautiful car that drives well but doesn't strive to be the best. Appeals to a niche. Looking forward to seeing more on the road.

Couldn't believe they didn't use the TTV8 either!

Yes I saw the video, maybe I worded it wrong. RS5 is fast, maybe faster than the M3 in some respects. But it is supposedly less involving to drive. So in the driving excitement aspect, it probably (speculating this because I've yet to drive an RS5) won't be as fun as the RWD M3. I think this car is for a whole other crowd. Having said that, I would take a serious look at RS5s because they are handsome cars

How you worded it now is exactly how I feel.

I think if that M3 in the video was wearing PSS's, traction wouldn't have been mentioned, it probably had Conti's. Anyway, M3>RS5 for me.

Just went to the Audi USA website. Went to the RS5 configurator and Price starts at $68,900.

$69,795 with destination charge.

Agreed. However add the core options most potential owners would opt for including Nav, Sport exhaust, 20" rims and Alu Optic the MSRP rises to $76,095. This would be near to the list price of an M3 coupe w/ DCT and most major packages.

From a true cost point-of-view, outside of the loyalty incentive, most (if not all) are being sold at MSRP. An M3 can be purchased $500-1k above invoice (not including incentives).

If I was cross-shopping for a high revving V8 coupe under 100K today, I would buy the RS5 over the M3, most likely. Of course, I would still rather have my C63C PP.

Yes, you are definitely right. Also since the Rs5 is new here, dealer markups would be a bitch. LOL!

To be honest, Audi's are a piece of shit. I have a friend who works at an Audi dealership and he said that they receive almost 300+ calls a day because of the carbon build-up problem. The FSI engine is a big failure since it's direct-injected. Carbon build-up on the valves and head became a MAJOR problem. This causes a significant loss in performance and damage to the engine. A lot of Audi B7 RS4's are now experiencing that problem as we speak. Give it 3-5 years and this 2012 RS4 will have the same problem. Take note, it's not only the B7 RS4 that has the problem. Early R8's and other vehicles equipped with the FSI direct-injected engine are also affected like the VW GTI's. These guys with the carbon build-up are spending thousands of dollars just to get the engine cleaned to get it back to optimum running condition. The problem here is after 20,XXX miles, the carbon build-up comes back and they have to start the spending/cleaning process all over. I forgot to mention that it's not just Audi and VW that has this problem. The Lexus IS250 is also direct-injected and the carbon build-up is also a major headache for owners. I really don't know what these guys are smoking because despite having the carbon build-up problem, Audi STILL continues producing direct-injected engines. I have to admit Audi's are nice looking cars, but the carbon-build up problem really deters me from purchasing one. You'll not suffer today with expenses, but wait in the long run...

Here's some food for thought:

MT says stock '11 M3 0-60 at 4.1 sec (12.6 qm), '13 RS5 was 4.3 sec (12.8 qm),'11 CTS-V was 4.0 (http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...n/viewall.html) ("But the M3 is still the most sharply focused driver's car of this bunch, a scalpel among sledgehammers.")

This RS5 is at Prestige Audi in Miami. I took a look at it and was not overly impressed. In person you really have to look at the details to differentiate it from an S5 or an A5 Titanium for that matter: Not saying its a bad choice - if anything understated in Black especially. I still prefer an M3

This is a winner for people who live in areas that see snow. I would take this over an M3 if and only if I had to worry about weather.

My buddy ordered one in Canada in panther black, loaded with most options for 101000 CAD out the door. But I personally wouldn't buy it since they use that 4.2 v8 in last gen RS4... Seems like not much progress only 30 more hp.
