I am really surprised to hear that, I can't really say though because I have never owned an e46 m3 or an e9x m3 but from what I have heard the e9x's are very reliable engine wise it is all the sensors and electronics that you have to worry about going bad because one sensor goes out it disables multiple features where as with the e46 m3 as long as you stay away from the SMG trans I would need not worry about getting a warranty....from what I have heard at least. Less electronics=easier fix/less to go wrong
