The Macrolon rear windows shed a considerable amount of weight.

We've already done the recaro treatment (and from the news on the page, a considerable amount of other similiar mods) and was able to rid of almost 140lb, lightweight battery was worth another ~40lbs.

still no GT3 or GT3 RS though.
Nice that they take Porsches 'GTS' naming. real original BMW.
For crying out loud
if M says the car weighs 1490 kg then it will weigh 3278 lbs staight off the line.
the conversion rate is 2,2 lbs to 1 kg.
the normal M3 is 1660 kg -> 3652 lbs
Subtract & you get 374 lbs !!
it isnīt that hard

BMW M3 GTS. Pure M genes.
5. Nov. 09

Even when you see it from a distance, you are instantly electrified. As a BMW M enthusiast, every step you take towards the orange painted concept vehicle of the BMW M3 GTS with its numerous matt black applications raises your adrenaline level a little more.

Exclusive 19-inch wheels with ample 255/35 tyres at the front and 285/30 at the rear catch your eye.

All this is certainly nice looking and sensible, but what you glimpse through the spokes of the aluminium wheel rims is even more exciting: a generously sized fixed caliper brake system with six pistons at the front and four at the rear.

The wheels almost fill out the wheel arches, but if you look closely you discover the next highlight. Yellow springs with a small M logo provide the crucial clue: a threaded suspension, adjustable in compression and rebound. “The rear axle support is bolted in place,” adds the responsible engineer.

The expert will also spot the adjustable front splitter and rear wing. One thing is clear: this car is serious stuff. Not only can a high level of downforce be generated but it also precisely adjustable at front and rear. Fast bends can look forward to welcoming the BMW M3 GTS - but they won’t get to see it for long.

“The serial production BMW M3 is already weight-optimised with a whole range of measures reserved for the BMW M3 CSL in the last model - the striking carbon lightweight roof, for example.”

So the engineers had to get back to work again to come up with more. Light body-contoured seats are a must.

A cluster of lightweight construction measures such as optimisation of the insulation, the use of lightweight parts in the interior, the use of Macrolon for the car's windows in the back, the lack of air conditioning, navigation and radio and the entire rear seat also gets the scales the down.

And the new titanium rear silencer not only looks great and contributes to the thrilling sound of the BMW M3 GTS, it is also much lighter than its serial production counterpart.

Indispensable for safety reasons: the lightweight construction body has been prepared for installation of the 6-point seatbelt included for use on the race track. There are also mounts for the roll-over protective structure bolted on from the B column. A fire extinguisher and a battery master switch/emergency shut-off preparation do not make the car lighter either - but safer.

So the BMW M3 GTS concept vehicle puts the scales up to around 1490 kilograms - causing the engineer to give an appreciative nod.

And the drivetrain? The heart of the BMW M3 GTS?

The car is fitted with a 7-speed M dual clutch transmission with adapted shift characteristics. But an absolute highlight is to be found under the bonnet. Exclusively for the BMW M3 GTS, the engine builders of BMW M - recent winners of the Engine of the Year Award once again - have developed a power unit based on the M high-performance engine of the current BMW M3: with a capacity of 4.4 litres and an output of some 450 bhp, it will catapult the light BMW M3 GTS into a whole new sphere.

After all, the aim is to clearly beat the lap time of the legendary M3 CSL on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. And test runs certainly give grounds for optimism.

All the new bells and whistles I am not all that surprised about. I see this ish everyday on the forum... black wheels, front lip, bbk, coilovers, black kidney grills... except for the rear wing. I'm surprised they didn't add their version of a rear diffuser!

I am really surprised about the 4.4L engine though. Any specs on the engine?

^I'm also really surprised about the 4.4L engine

I told myself that I wouldn't be jealous of this car, but I so am. I'd like one in Le Mans or Interlagos Blue.

However, for $170k, give me a f***ing break, I'll take a 7.2RS instead.

I know what my new wheels will look like

I also like the size:

255/35/19 (f) and 285/30/19 (r)

I wonder why they only increased the front 10mm but the rear 20mm. Would it affect understeer/oversteer?

Also, note that the factory rear lip spoiler is still there; they just added the adjustable wing.

There is no more right to say anything against BMW. The weight dropped more than expected. You say the M3 GTS is a pigg near the 911 GT3/RS, but then why did you ask an M3 CSL? If you don't like it then, and won't buy it but take a 911 GT3/RS instead, than don't complain BMW doesn't build any radical sport car. Anyway, if this M3 GTS makes the N-Ring in 7:40 min the ///M1 will beat all 911 Turbo/GT3/GT3 RS, F430/430 Scuderia, 458 Italia/458 Scuderia and MP4-12C, (R8 V10 and SLS are real piggs compared to the M3 GTS).

450 HP or by Euro standars (Germany) about 442 BHP
not much considering the 0,4 ltrs gain but the torque is expected to hit somewhere near 480 NM ( donīt ask me on lbft ) which is 80 NM more than the series M3

I think it looks better than the GT3RS. Hopefully, the performance is at least on par.

My only issue is the price...$170k

I wonder what the price would be if production were bumped up to about 1500 units per year (like the Nissan GTR).

I agree. I foresee the BMW performance website to add a few goodies other than just the performance steering wheel they currently have for the e9X M3.

The M3 GTS will, but sadly there really will not be an M1

I still believe there will be an M1 something of the kind, but not before 2012.

Word. Check the video for the car they have posted. I have been waiting for an alcantara steering wheel, and the wheels themselves are going to be huge sellers.

I just wish they would put out some alcantara seats like in my ZHP, those are my favorite BMW seats ever.

^ Why no rear diffuser? Does it not provide a function?

The aero interview noted that the rear wing provided more downforce than a diffuser would have. I guess it was less weight added as well...

Good question ! because actually the rear diff does give a certain extra down flow, at least my Hamann works beautifully since Iīve put it on
The car was very unstable at highspeeds B4 I had it on & it doesnīt weigh all that much !
