Satellite Radio Sound Quality

Is anyone else experiencing really poor sound quality from Satellite radio? Is it my car? settings? or something else? My local AM/FM sounds 10x better than music over Sirius Satellite Radio?

Thanks,
Pesh

That is unfortunately sat radio. Low quality stream. You can pay a little more for higher bit rate.

Sat Radio is disappointing compared to free HD radio in regards to SQ.

How do you get the higher bit rate? I looked on the SiriusXM site and didn't see any information about this.

Has anybody tried this? I wonder how much of a difference it makes.

Thanks,
Christian.

That's what I saw too. Too bad. I really like their programming but the sound quality just doesn't measure up. Probably even more obvious with the enhanced sound system.

Satellite Radio does not offer very good sound quality, unfortunately. But in these modern times of low-quality compressed MP3 files, the majority of the marketplace does not demand quality. In fact, the majority of the marketplace wouldn't even KNOW quality if it smacked them in the face.

Satellite radio has to go through the transpoders in the satellites which have a limited bandwidth, i.e. so many bits per second, total. That is, all music and voice type channels have to go through the same pipe, basically. When I first started getting Sirius years back the music channels seemed to be pretty decent and the voice channels you could easily tell were compressed. But with more and more channels being offered something had to give and it seems that the bitrate of the music channels were sacrificed. They don't sound nearly as nice as I believe they once were. Or maybe I'm just getting old and particular, but I swear there is a difference in quality now from what there used to be.

Cheers.
