M3 Winter Wheel & Tire Option
Hi all...I just sold my 2007 335i E93 that included the ZSP with 18" wheelset amongst its many options...although I never drove my 335i in the winter, I had purchased a set of 225-45-17 Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 DSST RFT snows on a set of 5 x 120 alloy wheels with TPMS...I have replaced the 335i with an equally loaded 2008 M3 E93 with the 19" wheel package and would appreciate some advice regarding my winter wheel and RFT and non-RFT winter tire options...there is always a chance that the M3 might never leave the garage this winter but I've just about reached the time in life when year round performance car driving becomes the rule rather than the exception...thanks in advance for any help that you can provide............

...thanks for the response...I sold the 225-45-17 winter wheelset with the 335 knowing full well that they would not fit my M3...I would like to know if anyone has actually purchased an E9X winter wheel and tire package and, if so, make a recommendation regarding size, brand and non-rft consideration...

For a very pricey $581 a piece, BMW will sell you Style 270 wheels designed to be e9X M3 winter wheels. Sorry, I don't have a better picture. Size is 8 x 18 et20. BMW's winter package will be this wheel with 235/40-18 Michelin PA2 winter tires. I'd consider running them with 225/45-18.

I just bought a set of OEM 18 takeoffs from a fellow forum member. I'll put winter continentals on them (235 front and 265 rear) leftover from my last car, a 997. Narrower is a bit better for driving in snow, but the large majority of days are just cold not snowy and the std size rears will make for better driving. The true benefit of winter rubber is the compound and tread pattern.

Thanks for the advice...I plan on keeping my eye out for a set of M3 OEM 18's and then deciding from RFT Michelin Alpin PA3 or Bridgestone Blizzak MZ-03 or non-RFT Nokian Hakkapeliitta R or Vredestein Wintrac Xtreme...I'm not sure if the Dunlop M3 Winter Sport is available in DSST in the 18" size but that could be another option...seems like the OEM 18" wheels with TPMS have been selling in the $1200 range while the non-TPMS have been selling closer to $1000...

Tire Rack has winter tires and wheels available for the M3.
You can get staggered or same size all around. 18" is probably preferred for winter for cost and pothole resistance reasons, but we have 19" options that will also work well. You can browse here: http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AW8&...nter/index.jsp

In the meantime, I can run my e46 with the new 18s and won't have to buy another set of rear PS2s for that car while waiting for the e90; saving another $700. Plus I think the grey 18s will look great on my jet black e46. Next summer, I'll run a square set-up of 265s front and rear on the 9.5 inch wheels.
