Damn it...the grass is always greener on the other side.

Although it def does not have the performance to compete with the M3 it def has the looks

My garage would look something like this: M3/RS5/CTS-V. M3 for road course, RS5 for daily driving, and the CTS-V for drag racing.

I am in a position to purchase a S5 (without wait) today. I went and sat in the car for an hour the other day playing around w/ it & etc. Everyone I know is telling me to get M3 instead (which is #2 consideration) but there is something about the S5 that is more appealing to me. May be because I've had my 335 for almost two years and I am now ready for something else. I am afraid that M3 (besides its performance) will be just too similar to my 335 coupe.

But, I have mo real experience w/ Audi and the value of the car will take a dump like there is no tomorrow.

Like someone said above...decision, decision, decisions.

It looks great, no doubt... I tested it before getting into my M3, the looks are everything... but it doesnt drive so hot... so it all depends what's in your priorities....looks>performance or performance>looks, you choose..

Like someone said above...decision, decision, decisions.

I understand your dilemma, I too would has been in there if Audi had the RS5 ready at the time I changed to the M3 (grass greener and all that). Change is a good thing as you are coming to something a fresh and the 'honeymoon' period would be much long than it could ever be with the M3, after all you basically know the thing inside out, with the possible exception being the performance it's 3 series with the same radio, seating position, pedal placement, electronics, etc.

The S5 is a bloody good car, one of the best I have ever owned and I would place it up there with the M3 on just about everything. In fact on a heck of a lot of things it's superior, from the stereo to the seat design and shape, to the build quality or should I say the perception of build quality. There is no doubt that the M3 in miles quicker and you do feel more connected to the road but as for cornering, braking and ride quality the S5 is definitely up there. It might be boring to some without the ability to hang the tail out (show-offs in my book) but after spending the last week getting up a 6o'clock to go to work with icy roads I can tell you that it's occasions like now that I miss my S5............... dearly.

It's a decision not to be taken lightly and I feel you should check out other 'Audi forums' and get a feel for how they (owners) rate the car living with it day to day. Over here there will always be a slight negative opinion to anything other than BMW which is understandable but coming from the very car you debating over and now owning the other possible contender I can tell you that the S5 is up there with the M3 in lots of ways and definitely feels a lot more special than the 335i could ever be.

Thank You very much for your response. This actually means a lot to me coming from a previous S5 owner. You are also absolutely right about the honeymoon stage. I do know the E92's in and out and besides the performance, it won't be that much more different.

I need to make up my mind before the Audi dealer starts letting others know that they have one in stock.

Thanks again.

Don't know if this means anything to you but the M3 for the most part go along unnoticed where as the S5 got lots of attention, from men and women alike.

I agree. The car is really nice, but it is lacking aggression. It's no M3, but Audi did well.

Well, it looks like I made a decision and M3 won. I have the ability get a 09 M3 close to cost and Audi dealer was not even taking a penny off of MSRP. It makes more sense to buy something at cost vs paying full price for it..... I loved my 335 and I am sure I will adore the M3.

Congrats on your decision. I would do exactly the same thing given the choice of near cost and full price, it gives you the option of changing a year early if you like because of this saving.

Maybe the RS5 by that time will have won you over.

Post photos when you get it.

I can live w/ it as it recalls the fabulous heritage they have of the 1930s Auto Union racers.

Audi's interior has gone to the birds (it was pretty atrocious to begin with). Doesn't feel natural, feels cluttered, and there are too many buttons to push.

is this being compared to the BMW's interior?

id take a standard A4 interior over anything on any level that bmw offers...

Audi's interiors are visually challenging and fresh..

I don't need to be visually challenged while I'm driving and that S5 interior hardly looks any different than my friends A4 from 2003 aside from the nav screen not being at my knees anymore. The ergonomics are nonexistant in the Audis. I'm not flying a spaceship so they can stop trying to impress me with the amount of buttons I need to push.

quality and ergonomics matters, not flashy buttons and ill placed nav screens.

I agree with you....I really was not that impressed w/ S5's int.... It isn't that much better than E92.

In addition, a car this beautiful should not have fake plastic grills next to its foglights.... I think that is a total fail on Audi's side.

The new audi interiors blow away anything bmw has, period.

whether you agree or not is up to you, but more people side with audi.

I actually just owned a 2008 Meteor Grey S5 and traded it for an 2009 E92 M3 in Melbourne Red. I like the M3 drive better.
