February was my first too; although I had driven the 1.7 many times prior to 2006 when I stopped DE'ing for a while. So only half the course was new to me.

Even sweeter! I love this track. MSRC 3.1 is now my favorite! I heard the 1.7 is not as fun. I will be back in a couple of wks with Maverick PCA. Are you attending this one? Lots of spots avail.

No but I am going to TWS on April 5th for the Open Track Day. Going to see how that works, haven't done one of those yet.

Hah. Sorry!

On topic, my replacement NT01 seemed fine and my other three have not opened up the splice as of yet.

yes please do tell! also did you mount them a specific way?.. mine were 4712 and my driver rear spliced..

btw I talked to Jim Platis over at performance tread today and let him know about the extent of the issue.

He confirms that he's hearing about this too, is greatly concerned and is going to escalate this issue to Nitto... hopefully we'll get a response from Nitto on this problem soon!

I got it

And in response to an earlier statement, I find the idea of using a jack or changing tires to be "high maintenance", so yes rotation would be out of the question. I have no real garage space (urban living) and love the idea of driving to the track, taking on all comers, and driving home... No muss, no fuss...I guess I think of any maintenance as "high maintenance"

Oh, and yes...we had massive hail at the track. There was ice at some of the apexes on Saturday. One car hit the ice and spun...doh!

If you have any doubt on the above video's validity...

I found both on the internet.

Wanted to add mine to the list. They are 4212 date code and I have ran all 4 down to the cords with no problem. I have also another set with a date code of 2011 that are half-worn and they look just fine so far.

I wanted to update the list again. I looked up dates on all 4 tires + 1 that got replaced in Dec. after 2 track days.

Looks like all the workers at Nitto were drunk in August...

Good...this thread was going in the direction of the "Schroth Harness Update" thread. Nice try Mr. Ortho...

I'll call Nitto tomorrow and see if I can get any info. My buddy has a splice in all of his tires on the outer 2/3's along the smaller tread blocks (actually the inner). They never got bad and he ended up just cording them. He got 9 days out of them I think.

Didn't see it in the thread, the BFG Rival is rumored to be showing up with a minor splice also in some sizes

Do you have a link to the supposed issue/rumor? I'm curious for sure.

I've had a set of 245/40 Rivals now for 19 runs and about 800 street miles, and I see no evidence of any issue like this at all. The tires are fantastic imo so far. Can't wait until the larger sizes are available soon (going to switch to 275/35, 295/35).
