To Low for Alignment
So apparently my local BMW dealership sucks again. My car with VRS lip and Eibach springs wouldn't make it up the ramp to get the alignment done. Can't be that hard to figure out how to build a wood ramp or even drag the car over on a jack and drop it on the ramps???
At least the Mercedes dealership right next door is gonna try and help me out. They have a machine that sits flush in the ground. I can tell you the guys at Mercedes got a good laugh out of this one. At least I got a C63 from them so they know me and are willing to help out. I really wish I lived closer to a good BMW dealership..

Believe me, if I worked at the shop it would be long done by now. It's not so hard to figure out how to make it work. Unfortunately I don't so I can't really tell them how to do their job.

The dealership didnt want to figure out how they could get ur alignment done..
mb b/c u have the mods.. a simple wood plank would have worked fine.. even a 2x4 at the edge to step the car up initially... too easy, theres more to it..

The 2x4 method works best. I have seen a lot of alignment shops use 2x4s so that that lowered cars can get on the alignment rack. The BMW dealership just did not want to deal with it.

Since our alignment rack is not sunk in the ground, we made some ramps so that lowered cars could get up and we haven't encountered a car that we can't get on our alignment racks.
Simple blocks of wood will suffice, but its good to hear that you have a Mercedes dealership close to you that has a sunken rack. |

Yea, there is no local race shop to me. The dealership I bought my car from is real cool and they're about an hour away so I might go there instead.
The Mercedes dealership is two minutes from my house and right next door to BMW. They have a rack that sits flush in the ground. Told me they had to buy it for the SLR's and a couple other models they have. Service manager is pretty cool there and said he'd let one of the BMW techs use his rack. But I can tell you he laughed his ass off when he heard BMW couldn't figure out this themselves.

I went to a couple of places for alignment with my M3 with the same problem ... and it sits just a bit lower with H&Rs I believe. It wasn't the lip or bumper...it was the front diffuser they were concerned about. I finally went to Big-O-Tires and they slipped some 2x4s on the ram edge to make it happen. The other guys had the 2x4s but didn't want to take the risk on ripping off the diffuser...not that they couldn't figure out how to do it. And they were right...if my diffusor had ripped off..they would be paying for it.

I wouldn't slip them anything extra. They get paid hourly for their time, and their complete lack of competence disgusts me. I'll just go somewhere else. But then again this is the same dealership almost a year ago that replaced my whole front end when all they needed to do was update my diff fluid These idiots couldn't even figure out what side of the car they were supposed to be working on and I had told them when I dropped it off. Does BMW even care about the quality of the mechanics in some of their dealerships???

which leads me to my last statement... bmw just cut technicians pay on all warranty claims which obviously makes techs not want to work as hard or care for that matter....

After the idle manifold repair, they forget to put a piece of my intake piping in. Didn't secure a SINGLE bolt nut or screw in the whole entire engine bay. Took tranny in for service, due to this grinding issue I've had lately. My tech friend Adam replicates issue. Shop Foreman overturns the decision. No. They really don't give a fuck. |
