Question M3 Weight?

2 questions about M3 weight:

1. How much does the M3 weigh without driver and a full tank of gas? I've searched this forum and other sources and ran into conflicting numbers.

2. Why exactly is it heavier than the E46 M3? The engine is lighter, and they lightened smaller stuff like the roof and suspension parts. The only explanation I have is the larger chassis. How about the transmission? If anyone has detailed information about the weight breakdown for the subsystems, that would be great (although I doubt that BMW would release all that at this point).

1. Good question. I have seen everything from sub-3500 lbs. to over 3600 lbs.

2. Heavier chassis is mostly it I believe. The lighter engine and lighter roof are not enough to offset it.

I think those are meant to be with driver? Isn't that how BMW reports weight?

I think the E90 gained ~100 lbs over the E46 chassis, so the fact that BMW could stuff in a larger displacement engine and still be less than 100 lbs heavier than the E46 M3 is pretty remarkable, IMO.

The weight I've seen with 68Kg driver, 90% fuel and 7kg luggage (EU specs) is 3,483 lbs. We'll have to see what BMWNA posts. I have $100 riding on this:

That would be under the BMW advertised weight for the E92 335i in the US. By over 70lbs, in fact. I wonder what the advertised weight of the E92 335i is in EU? Either way that is impressive. Keep in mind that while the new S65 V8 is ligher than the S54 I6 in the E46 M3, it is indeed heavier than the N54 I6 in the E92 335i. It seems the carbon fiber roof and lighter suspension components really have helped then.

Did you mean to say "with" driver? Why would they specify driver weight and include luggage if it is without driver? Just checking.

Yes, my error--I have corrected the original post. Thanks.

The German website lists the 335i Coupe at 1600kg using EU standards (footnoted), which includes 90% fuel load, 68 kg driver and 7kg baggage. If you subtract these you end up with about 1485kg or 3,273lb, which is ridiculously low and nowhere near the BMWUSA spec of 3,571lb "unladen". It appears this EU weight for the 335 is incorrect, and should be more like [1620kg (3,571lb) + 40 (fuel) + 68 (driver) + 7 (luggage)] =1715kg.

Do you know if the 335 and the M3 come with full size spares?

No E9X has a full-size spare, or any spare for that matter. No room.

Are you saying they will ship the M3 with run-flats?

The M3 doesn't use run flats, it will most likely have tyre sealant.

I believe it's called the M-mobility system or something like that.

No, same as E46 M3--MMobility kit (compressor and liquid flat fix in trunk).
