Anyone else real dissapointed by m3?
Hey guys,
Before everyone starts flipping out, im just giving my opinions here. I purchased my m3 about 9 months ago. I drove about two of them before I bought it for short bursts. Being a owner of a 335, i expected this car to blow my mind in every aspect. However recently, Im just starting to doubt my purchase real real bad. In someway I expected a car thats really quick, handles like a god damn dream, brakes and does everything else real well. Eventhough until this day I still think the m3 is a "great" car, however maybe a little weak sauce. Today I was real bored and started counting how much this car actually cost me until this minute. Close to 90k with the mods-_-. Im really really regretting maybe not picking up a used porsche gt3 as the m3 is not my daily driver. Ive tried everything to make this car a beast in every aspect: Handling: Kw v3 (corner balanced/alignment done by westend) Yoko Ad08 tires Speed: Gintani race+challenge x pipe Wheels: hre c20's which are light, though it would be better for handling Cosmetics: Listed in sig, I feel like the car isnt "mean" enough. Im left to a supercharger/brembos, which I keep debating every single day. I feel like adding more HP will just cause a bigger dissapointment, with the rest of the car not quite there. Whats everyone elses opinions on their modded m3's? |

Do you track it? Bet you would fall in love with it all over again if you did.
I still love mine even after almost two years. Then again its more of my DD so its a practical fun car that can be taken to the track on occasion. Not sure if I would have gotten it if it was my weekend toy though. When i think of weekend toy then i think about the Z06, 911, cayman S, Lotus, etc.. Sell the mods and buy a S2k. I miss mine sometimes.

I need to move back stateside.......... I dont even have the option of picking up a used ZO6 or a used Cayman over here. Used they cost as much over here as they do new in the states and they are Euro spec.
On point here.... I am in no way disappointed with the M3

I enjoy the M3 as a very entertaining daily driver. My advice is to appreciate it for what it is, or trade it for something more to your liking.

The only thing that disappoints me about this car is that it has interior rattles that make it sound cheap and old. It's got just as many rattles and buzzing sounds as my 20 year old toy camry. Other than that, drive handling and power sweetness

If you had $90,000 to spend on a weekend car, then you should have purchased the GT3. I don't mean to pile on here, but it is what it is.

KWV3, corner balancing, light rims and AD08s - not gonna notice the benefits of those on the street... I basically did the same thing.

ive gone against alot of cars in my M and the others cars being more powerful than the M and i have to say that even if i wasnt as good it never let me down and never ever till date regretted getting the M instead of a gtr or a porsche.

I'm content with the car as is, but if I spent another 30K on what pretty much amounts to looks and sound, I might have a little buyer's remorse.
Daily drive the car....you'll appreciate it more. |

Track it and then post again. The m3 as a daily is no better than a 325i. You really need to be driving it hard to get the most out of it. And by hard driving , I dont mean stoplight drags.

I love it, I think it's a great car but it's not GT3 and a 911 "S" is also better when it comes to performance/handling/precision/fun etc. Still, the M3 is a joy to drive, it looks great and is an amazing car.
Sounds you like you bought the wrong car for the job. I was going to sign a lease for a 2010 911 "S" PDK before the M3 and couldn't do it as a DD. Just too impractical. Even now I'm looking at a 2011 911 "GTS" but still can't do it because it's $1,400+ / month and I already have an M3 and a few other cars. The GTS is an incredible car, although I'm not sure I could DD regardless of anything. Do you track your car? If you do (and I hope you do since you say it's your 2nd car) I'm not sure what you're experiencing since the M3 is a MONSTER on the track.

My first track event is at Mfest so ill definately try it out, to be honest I cant wait. Im sure this is where the M really shines
Kind of off topic: I just put AD08's on and my alignment seems to be off at higher speeds. I had ps2's before and alignment was spot on. Since these two tires are not really comparable in tire tread design and such, is this normal? I would love love to own a gt3. Im sure I would mod it too. I always think about it and back off the idea. I dont want that kind of attention at my age(23) from NO ONE. I dont even take my car to the office, dont like that kind of attention. I am willing to bet if you had bought a GT3 you would be on a Porsche site making the exact same post. What you are experiencing is "getting used to your car". If you had bought a Bugatti Veyron, you would even get used to it eventually.
All that being said, the M3 is the best performance car there is that still retains a daily drivable, utilitarian nature (room for 4 or 5 passengers and a good trunk). The M3 is far from the best sports car there is if utility is not required, there are many out there that are better. When you cited the GT3 you named one of the best there is period! |
