Valve Actuator Question

Had a ton of warning lights (engine malfunction, emissions, etc.). Brought into dealer and they told me it was the valve actuator that threw the warnings but once reset it is not happening again. They also said I need a new battery (2008 with 65k miles so that seems reasonable).

Any ideas on why it would throw the valve actuator code and not happen again?

There is a good chance it will happen again and your car will go into limp mode.

Mine did that, dealer reset and a month later it happened again, it reset on its own after i restarted the car and then again 2 weeks later. Finally got my throttle actuator replaced as they confirmed mine was becoming defective and never had a issue since.

Yep this. If it happens randomly, it's only a matter of time until it fails. For $1000 a pop you'd think they'd be bullet proof.

Ouch, I was thinking that might be the case. Btw - it went into limp mode a few times over the past few days before I brought it in. Already had to replace diff seals and battery today ($1400). So its $1000 to do the actuator? Thanks Guys.

Since your off warranty, you might try an Indy shop to do this.
Mine replaced this for about $500 ( the part is about $360 and rest is labor).

thanks arter - prob time to find an Indy instead of dealer. The loaner makes it a lot easier to use dealer and my service guy has actually been pretty good and tries to at least numb the pain with the 'top customer' discounting. I will find out from the dealer their price and compare.
