M power button on E92 M3 6 manual transmission
I bought a 2009 M3 E92 6 speed manual transmission and there is No M button on the steering wheel (like the e60 M5 that I had).
It has a "power" switch next to the gears but I do not feel any drastic change to the car. In the M5 the M power used to change the output of power of the engine from 400 to 500HP, change the suspension and response of the engine. It was a noticeable transformation from a "city" car to a "sport" car. What does the "power" switch do for the E92 M3 with 6 speed manual? |

That is what is supposed to do but I do not feel the difference when I am driving and press it. On another subject do you all hear a sound from the rear when you depress the clutch?

I drove an M3 E46 to see how the clutch feels and it sure feels different. The E92 clutch feels looser.
I was told by the BMW dealership that they installed a new clutch a new transmission on the car last summer so I am will be taking in for check up since it is covered by their 2Y labor and part warrant on all performed work. |

I believe you need the technology package to get the M Button, correct me if I'm wrong.

i was just about to post that this can be retrofitted.
but gave it some thought, and it may be more difficult then i initially thought. aside from the proper 'button layout' on the steering wheel, there is also the changes in the tension of the steering (misterming this probably, you know what i mean, stiffer vs softer steering). so if you were really inclined to retrofit this, i THINK the following hardware would be required: a) button pack that includes the m button. b) whatever it is that changes the tension of the steering after you had that installed it MAY be as simple as adding the MDM option to the vehicle order and resetting the car to factory settings with the new VO. weather iDrive is required or not i do not know, but i'm guessing MDM was available for buyers who opted out of the navi / iDrive. i could be way off and theres more to it, but i'm guessing the mdm option is actually in every ecu since its essentially just a bunch of software based changes to how the car performs. i dont think there is any difference between EDC with / without mdm. i dont think there is any difference between the throttle bodies with / without mdm. all thats left is the changes that are possible with the steering. proceed at your own risk, i could be way off... |

Servotronic is what changes the steering stiffness. I wonder if a car without the "M" button would even have it. Through the idrive you cannot even activate this setting. It only turns on when you hit the button

I was correct that I did not feel any change when the "Power" button was pressed.
The car was serviced at the dealership and the 2009 M3 needed to be updated with the latest software. The car now feels different. The cold start is not that loud, the car is more responsive and aggressive and the "power" button is noticeable when is pressed. The software update is about $180 and it takes 2 hours to upload.
