OP: really nice job you did there.. I like the incorporation of newer BMW designs such as the headlights from the X6 etc. Honestly I much prefer it over the E8x/F2x designs. Nicely done. Also fills a niche not currently offered by BMW and few other automakers (the 2 door hatch). I'd buy it.
The only thing I would change is to remove the sloping like on the lower side doors, and replace the skirts with ones that taper to a middle arch (aka the M3 side skirts) to give the impression of a sporty/lithe side profile.

You are very lucky to have both the E90 M3 and the 1M in your garage. I presently have the E90 M3 as well and am considering going with the 1M, but I can't have both. If you could only have one, which would it be and why?

He doesn't have both, his GF has the 1M IIRC.

Oh, right. I'm guessing an M3 bias. (not that there's anything wrong with that )

I love the heck out of my M3, but the torque in the 1M is ADDICTING.

I just don't like the front look... maybe it's the big ass headlights or the bumper. It just doesn't do it for me. It performs well though... nice car indeed, but not of my like.

If 1M was made like this it would've blown away VW GTi, Sirroco, Audi S3, Subaru STI, Ford Focus RS or, for that matter, any performance hatchback, and BMW would've probably dominated that segment with the "ultimate" performance hatchback, and create a new standard like the M3 did

OP: Wow, you should work for BMW. I don't like the looks of the 1XX and 1M, but what you made looks great!
What I didn't like about the 1 (and 1M): a. Proportions. The back looks cut off. b. The front. Stop smiling at me! The 1 looks like a dopey looking fish face to me... or a pig snout! lol c. The headlights. 3 series lights look "mean". The 1 series lights look "happy". I don't want happy. Makes me think of a Neon. The 1M has all these, but at least has some "badass" thrown in, so I like it more while still disliking it. Taste is subjective: just my 2 cents. |

i'm jumping on this pretty late, but i'm 99% sure that the 1-series in Europe looks exactly like the OP's revolutionary design...
not to dismiss any work here, but yeah, BMW did just that in Europe... http://www.bmw.fr/fr/fr/newvehicles/...roduction.html |

Really? Looks EXACTLY the same to you?

I guess we can use your link and compare side by side. Point out what I thought was obvious. The only panels that are the same are the doors and hood. For starters the front and rear bumpers are from the 1M coupe, the side sheet metal as well. From the front you should notice the headlights and kidneys are very different(borrowed and modified from the X6). The taillights borrowed from the new F20(only available in 5door currently). Also, the fender flares should be quite obvious from the rear view. I exaggerated them even more than the 1M coupe's. So, I never claimed it was 'revolutionary' or anything. But it is a design I would be interested in. A 4seat, 2door, hatch more closely related to the original 'Mcoupe'(Z3based). You still 99%certain they are 'EXACTLY' the same?

holy crap, obviously you take that a lot more seriously than i did !!!
all i was saying is that BMW do have a 1-series coupe / 3-door in Europe just like the one you presented... and yes, reading what you just said, you do have a lot of "personal" touches to it... but the 3-door (or 2-) coupe idea is not new, thats all... i personally like the 1-series both ways, having seen this one before in person, it does look good too... and the M touch you added to it only makes it better... we're good ? |
