Open campaign?

I brought my 2010 E93 M3 into Southbay BMW today for an oil change. The service rep told me there's currently an open campaign on my car and they need to do some software update/reprogramming?

Does anyone know what this is and what they are going to do to my car?
I asked the service guy and he was totally clueless. Just told me what the order number was...which I could not make heads or tails of...

I know that many people are getting software upgrades which won't allow reprogramming by third party ECU tuners. I don't know if this is the only thing being changed in the software. If you have a choice just say no.

Cheers.

Have you been in since Aug/Sept. There was a software update for DCT then. See http://www.m3post.com/forums/showpos...postcount=1725 for pdf.

SI B28 01 10

Service Action: Program Control Units (DCT)
MODEL
E82, E88, E89, E90, E92, E93 vehicles with DCT transmission produced from 1/08/2008 to 8/31/2010
SITUATION
Due to errors in the diagnostic software of the DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) module, the "Freeze frame
data" of the DCT memory can not be read out when using aftermarket scan tools.
CAUSE
DCT software error

blah, blah, blah...

It appears to be a non-function-impacting fix to allow non-BMW scan tools to read the DCT freeze frame data for diagnostic purposes. I presume that vehicle manufacturers are compelled to support some degree of scan tool interoperability, perhaps OBDII associated.

I had my car in the shop this week, and they kept the car overnight and did this reprogramming. The tech told me it related to the DCT clutch management, but that’s about all he knew. The car runs fine. I cannot tell any difference in anything so far.
