Exclamation Craigslist scammers?

Anyone have experience with craigslist? I just recently posted my guitar for sale and already recieved a few strange emails.

This person emails me and says:
how much are you willing to sell this listed equipment?happy holiday.

regards

Being the smartass I am, since the price was stated in the title, I replied.

A few minutes later I recieved this:
Good to have your reply. I am Anita ford, from Topeka, KS.and would have loved to come and inspect this at your place myself, but I am a marine engineer and presently off-shore. I am interested in buying this for my son in Ohio as a surprise birthday gift and pls just make sure it is in condition described. I will appreciate more pictures if available and will be sending your money asap. My shipper will be available to pick this up as soon as payment is made. Do you have paypal account? because, I have a paypal account that I can easily send money through because, its good for business payments. Get back to me with your paypal email address and name in order for me to have your money sent on time. Confirm sale to me and remove the add from posting.

Sounds pretty sketch to me...

Any input??

But I don't undertand exactly how someone would even do that. I could understand a seller scanning, but how would they do that trying to buy something?

Okay they either use checks or paypal. If checks, they would send you more than your asking price so that you could refund them the difference. Then a few weeks later the check will bounce and you'd be out the money that you refunded to them. It's the same thing with paypal. It's going to disappear after a while and you'd already sent them the item.

Oh I see. Well isn't that tricky of them.. not going to work on me!

How the hell does one send a faux paypal payment? Anytime I've used paypal if I didn't have the money right there or enough to transfer from my account, it wouldn't even let me think about sending a payment...

thats a good question about papal. Maybe this person is planning to scam paypal by saying she never got the item shipped to her because someone else picked it up from you??

No clue. Either way I wouldn't do that unless I knew the person was legit.
One of the reasons I've never used craigslist, but I need $ and have to sell some shit lol.

Stolen credit or ATM card, or hacked paypal account (i.e. send $$ from a legit account but w/o owners knowledge/consent).

I liked the part about residing in Kansas, and working offshore. How many marine biologist work offshore and live in Topeka??? Not buying that, and definitely wouldn't be selling either!!!

I've received almost that exact same email copy and paste. A scam for sure.

the fact that you didn't immediately identify this correspondence as a scam and move on, ignoring it, shows you almost fell for it.

did you really need to come on here asking us if its is a scam or not?

I saw just the opposite. It was fake ads posted on various for sale sites. They were fishing for active email accounts to hack. So, if you emailed them from personal/work email, they tried to hack your account.

They would post an ad like: 2011 M3 for sale. Fully loaded asking $50k. "Hi name is Anita and just went through a divorce and received this car as a settlement and need to sell car asap. I know it's below blue book but couldn't care less as I simply want the cash instead." TOTAL FISHING SCAM.

Anyone else seen these ads?
