Will our cars drop in value when warranty is up?

My warranty is up in the coming summer, I'm considering to sell now vs. waiting until summer for resale value. Aside from resale, I'm itching for a switch anyway. A drop is resale is a good excuse to sell, as well as not having to deal with any rediculous repair bills or maintenance out of warranty.

Its either sell it now, or hold onto it for another 2 years or so. Selling in 6 months is bad timing.

The big problem is I cant find another all around car I like as much as the M3 for a $50k budget.

Anyway, back to the original question: I estimate my car is worth about $40k today, it could drop another 10% after the warranty expires.

I'm sure a buch of your are in the same boat.

Thoughts?

This was the main motivating factor in trading in the car this week. I fought with the idea nothing compares to my car for 2 months, but have found peace that I needed something easier, less maintance and more friendly to work on. Perhaps in 5 years, I'll be back with new F10.

Yes. The value of my E39 5-series dropped like a rock when the warranty was up.

LOL FAIL ^ what car did you get?

I say get out of it now before the warranty expires, next summer there might be 1000 people just like you who want to get rid of their '08's because of warranty expiring. Then there's gonna be a much bigger hit than 10%.

I don't know what your lifestyle situation is or your personal tastes etc but why don't you list it for sale, let that take its course and if by the time it is gone you don't find a suitable replacement for your needs just pick up a Subaru or a MKV GTi, both are reliable as hell, won't require much maintenance and you won't be hit hard by depreciation. Heck I picked up a MKV GTi as my first car and sold it back 10,000miles~ later for 1000GBP more than I paid for it, and that was to a dealer with NO trade-in just cash!!

Agree, value will drop. My 09 will most likely be history at the end of this HPDE season. Think that I will replace it with something a little more reasonable....perhaps a GTR.

I'd agree in that anything else at that price point, that's as fun to drive as the e9x m3, won't have a warranty either and then you'll be in the same boat, but with a different car. You won't know the car history like you do your own and it probably won't have the m3's reliability which is pretty good considering its performance. You can tailor the BMW extended warranty by years/miles, so perhaps pick that up for two years and go to an independent for service.

Exactly. I was looking at an 09 M5 or 09 S6. However a year later, no warranty and the value of that car will drop as well.

I drove a CTSV - very powerful, but couldnt HEAR the engine

S6 - too boring looking on the outside, interior is well built but outdated
M5 - reliability nightmare, no thank you
S8 - value will drop when the new one comes out
550 / 535 - I might go this route, however I want an MSPORT and they are very difficult to find used, at a good price

What else is out there??? I want something larger than the M3

I purchased a 2012 Toyota 4Runner Limited. I have owned a E46 M3 (too much problems at 65k miles) E92 M3 (started to develop small problems) . I am done with BMW for a while.

It was Sapphire Black Metallic. Sold this summer. Ignore if you were asking the OP. I could not tell.

Good Choice. Doesn't make sense to me to get rid of it after 2 years, which is the warrenty period for guys in Germany. Current plan is to keep it til least 2014. Need a larger garage.
