503 Motoring || Cayman Passport 9500ci install

Here is an install we completed a few months back on a Porsche Cayman S. This write-up was written, documented and Installed by Tim.

The start....

Dis assembly to get access for the final resting point of the components.

Placing the Control Module and the speaker. Going to need to address speaker location again as we have a tiny whine at higher RPM.

With the Display and Controls going in the lower cubby we decided to do a quick release system so Mark could take this out if needed. Thanks to Mark for doing the research on the plugs he wanted.

Then on to the mounting plate made from 3/4 HDF and countersunk to accept the control/display. Note the small cut out to access the power button if needed. (we also pre-wired a tether to install a momentary switch later is needed). Special thanks to Her987CS who did the legwork to get the correct grain leather we needed to add the finishing touch to the install.

Now onto the bumper..

Decided that the radar sensor would be best suited under the cover and mounted to the Reinforcement bar

We then measured and mounted the shifters to the left and the right. The brackets had to be modified so that the shifters would hang properly into the intake opening.

No how to wire it all together....hmmmm

We found the perfect access hole on the DR side of the front uni-body and ran our Radar and Shifter connections through here, after heat shrinking the connections we flex tubed and wound them to the existing harness

Ran the wires into the boot and wrapped them to the factory harness with wool tape.

Then ran the wires through the Body plug into the main unibody.

While running all this we ran the GPS antennae and placed it on the OEM mounting pad under the cowl.

Now to the rear for the rear shifter.

Tail light out we were able to get the cable snuck through from the license plate area. Then a body plug was installed to run the ESCORT wire plug through. The rest of the wire was run under the factory panels and up to the front.

Then back up to the front to tie it all together. The connections were all plugged into the control module and then mounted.

I removed the side dash access panel, mounted the USB port inside then reinstalled.

Then to wrap up the front bumper I cut the intake vents around the shifter brackets

Then mounted the shifters and reinstalled the bumper

Then back to the interior to reinstall all the dash components and put the display/control panel in. Then Viola!!!!! Success.

And that is it. Lots of time spent making sure that the harness was integrated in as best as possible. Had a few hiccups along the way, had a small crack in the air intake vent from removal so purchased new ones and it actually worked out better because I was able to get the tolerance on the shifter mounts access holes better. Also seem to be having a bit of an alternator whine, very, very faint but at certain RPM's it's still there.

Mark stopped in after a long journey to Porsche Parade and all worked perfectly, all bands were triggered in his journey and with the exception of a small adjustment to the bumper center plug we scored and A-... and from Mark I will take that as an A+++++. He is a hard person to please and I know working with him certainly increased my appreciation of the little details.

9500 ci Install

GREAT THREAD!!!

I just finished following all these directions to install nearly the same way in my Cayman, and the info here (especially the photos) were invaluable!!! Thanks so much for this. I just tried the system out and everything works great. I noticed you spoke of a little whine at certain RPMs. I have that as well. Were you ever able to resolve this?

Thanks again for a great effort!

Mark actually twisted the power and
ground cables together and moved the speaker over by the control module and viola! whine was gone.

whine

Uh, maybe I'm a little slow to comprehend what you just told me . . . twist main power (+ and -) together? And then . . .

Move the speaker to near the control module . . . wasn't your's mounted behind the center console? I had a bit of difficulty telling exactly where yours ended up. I end up putting my just past the rear of the center console on the passenger side, just above the foot well cover.

Any recommendation?

Oh, by the way. Especially thanks for the info on the quick disconnect plugs! I ordered them and they are VERY slick. Nice touch!!!

Regards!
