Rear tyres....
Looks like I going to need some new rears pretty soon....car is running on factory 19"'s.
So, UK people, what tyres are you using.... 265/35/19 I think? What sort of mileage (never got more than 12k on the 535d rears) are you getting from what brands, along with good grip and sensible noise levels. Suggestions please...... Last edited by sos; 10-04-2011 at 03:43 PM.. |

I've had my E93 for almost 2 years now and when initially bought it had Michelin PS2's fitted front and rear. I have found, not only on M3's but other cars, that Michelins are a fairly soft compound along with Pirelli's as well. In the M though I've averaged about 9K miles on a set of tyres, give or take.
I am currently trying out Conti 3's on the rears and Michelins on the fronts as I have found Contis to be a bit harder wearing, though not much it has to be said, taking into account the M is a rear wheel drive car. Some may disagree with my choice but hayhoe thats choice for you!....Obviously there is a price factor to take into consideration. That said, tyres are the only things that make contact with the ground and from a safety point of view, and should not be compromised. Bottom line, it comes down to how you drive the car, how you look after your tyres, ie bouncing them against the kerb when parking ( might be the cheaper option than having diamond cut's re-skimmed! ), potholes in roads, etc. Also included is personal choice , we've all seen them cars, (not M3's i hasten to add) with a different make of tyre on each of its four wheels. never worked that one out! Anyway, it currently has Conti 3's on the rear, and Conti 2's on the front. They were on the car when I got it. They seem pretty good to be honest, and are BMW rated, which is always a good thing, so will probably stick with them, was just wanting to see if there was anything better around. Conti 3's appear to be around £250/corner........ The car does get driven "properly" every time I use it......but it certainly doesn't go near any kerbs (or public car parks when it can be avoided). |

Standard sizes are 265/35/19 and 245/35/19 - usually PS2's
I'm running 275/35/19 and 255/35/19 Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas. These, for me, are a good balance of performance & budget - I do a lot of motorway driving. They're a capable tyre and reportedly better than PS2's in the wet. Had this set on for 20k miles - rears will need changing soon, but the fronts are ok (yeah, yeah, M3 fail ) Most wouldn't advise mixing different tyres front & rear.

I've heard good things about the Vredestein Ultrac Sessantas, but haven't had the opportunity to try these myself.
I ran Falken 452s all round before I sold the car and must say I was very impressed. I was previously running Mich PS2s, but would happily buy Falken again, from my experience. |

Hey,
265*35*19s are the stock size so there fine unless you want a little bit more width, however if your not bothered they'll definetly do. I've got cont3s on mine and there ok and I'm sure they'll last a good 10k miles but I'm wanting the mich piliot sport cups next but doubt they'll last long. If your happy with the cont 3s just go for them again

Michelin PS2s 265/40/18s on my e90 rear, more than 5k miles done on this set being a mixture of highway and b-roads, still alot more tread to go.. guessing with my current driving style can squeeze out a good 10k+ miles for the rears.

Thanks for the input all, have ordered the Conti 3's for the rear.......car is still under warranty, so don't want to mess around with the tyre sizes, as the dealers will use any excuse should something fail....
