Really not much news here at all. The time is better by almost exactly 1 second. Pretty much everyone with any clue agrees the car is probably putting out about 530 hp. What I do think the extremely small margin of improvement shows is that the 7:29 time was truly one of those "stars aligning" kind of runs as was this one.

Kudos to Nissan. Porsche said that Nissan was lying, and Nissan just made Porsche eat its own shit. I know there will be tons of debate on how much HP is really under the hood, but I think that it is very hard to dispute the time now. I wonder what Porsche will say, if they say anything at all.

Everyone were under the impression that Nissan cheated but the simple truth is that there is a world of difference between an F1 caliber driver that is familiar with a car and what it's truly capable of and a really good driver that is less familiar with the car.

What Nissan have done here is put to rest the argument that it was impossible.

Would like to see them take one (one that a random non employee owns) to the ring and see what it does. Pay the owner $5k to use his car and offer an extended warranty on it, as well as a brand new set of tires and brakes when done.

Not saying this is just a case of Nissan, but in the days of easy and quick ECU flashes/reprogramming for more power, less intervention, etc etc. it's always suspect when manufacturers toot their own horns about times, records and results.
Independent testing and results are much more scientific and believable.

And what's up with Nissan adding yet another several thousand dollars to the price of the GT-R for 2010?
I didn't think the demand for them was that great.
Guess their trying to make up for the crappy sales of the new Maxima.

Good points all around. The wheels absolutely do not look stock. Not that wheels will make a better lap time but I strongly second the general theme of your post. WHO knows WHAT car (or what specs it had) that ran this time. If the spec is 480 hp and most agree it has at least 530 hp, why not just tune the ECU a bit more for 540 hp.

I dont understand all the hate on the GTR...the thing is an insane beast

however, on the topic of "stock" ...those wheels look like the V-Spec wheels, and its really hard to tell and im throwing this out there but the brakes are not stock. If they used the V- Spec( which the car looks to be) it changes everything

Nissan has made it clear that if you try it yourself at the track, your warranty is voided.

Finally saw one up close inside the parking lot in Borgata Hotel in Atlantic City this past weekend. Pictures don't do this car any justice at all. The GTR is a beast and i'm shock how really nice looking it is on every angle, what a car.

On the positive side, the parts are the typical blend of OEM quality and fitment, with a focus on tighter handling and weight reduction. Rounding out the handling package is a set of Rays forged aluminum wheels, sized 20x9.5-inches in front (+45mm offset) and 20x10.5-inches (+25mm offset) in the rear, and wrapped in Bridgestone RE070R run-flats, sized 225/40 and 285/35, front and rear. These are rumored to be the same rollers we'll see on the Spec-V when it's unveiled in Paris this October.

The rest of the parts focus on weight reduction, beginning with a lightweight axle-back exhaust that drops 11 pounds from the GT-R's curb weight, along with a carbon fiber undertray that reduces air turbulence and parasitic drag. Upgraded carbon-fiber backed and leather-trimmed seats are also part of the package, which retains the side airbags but nixes the electronic controls, reducing weight by another 13 pounds total. Naturally, some NISMO badging rounds out the upgrades.

Now here's the bad news: the parts are only available in Japan as a package, can only be installed by 12 NISMO-authorized shops and come in at a whopping ¥5,460,000 (over $50,000). However, some U.S. importers have already worked out a distribution deal with NISMO, but for those of us in the States, we don't get the added benefit of the three-year/60,000 km warranty.

Well again, it's clear even with different wheels and the larger stickier Bridgestone tires on the Nismo version that will also be used on the Spec V version, it ain't a stock GT-R

Not quite sure why Nissan isn't be forth coming about that, and again it leads to questions about whether the engine/ECU was stock as well.

No doubt the car is a beast, but Nissan isn't apparently being completely truthful in it's claims and using it for sales and bragging rights.
