Laser / Radar Jammers

I'm fairly new to M3 Post. I recently bought a 2008 M3 convertable just 12,500 miles. I would like to know if anyone out there has had a Laser/Radar jammer installed in their M3, and does it work?

^ yup.
But even if their radar/laser says 0MPH when you fly by at 130 they'll still get you for reckless endangerment.

I don't mean to lecture anyone here, just saying that if you decide to speed, be smart about it, and you know the possible risks...

try www.radardetector.net good forums for radar and laser.

For radar, i will recommend the Valentine V1. Some other may recommend the Escort 9500i(x) or 8500 or redline. Those are all radar detectors that mount on the windshield. You can always get something like the 9500ci which is stealth and installed in the vehicle.

For laser you can look into the Blinder or Laser Interceptor jammers.

good luck and happy speeding!

Laser Jammers of the passive type are illegal in some states but not all. But hey who's counting? Active jammers might be a little different.
If you get caught with a jammer whats the cop going to do? Just say its your park distance control and demonstrate that they can work as that too!

Actavie Radar Jammers (that kind that actually work)are illegal in sll states, very expensive and almost impossible to obtain. So called "passive" radar jammers, such as the ones sold by Rocky Mountain Radar, are illegal in some states, and legal in most but that is moot since they are about as effective at jamming radar as hanging a pine tree car deodorizer from your rear view mirror.

Radar detectors are illegal in passenger cars in Virginia and DC, most Canadian provinces and maybe one or two other states. They are illegal in commercial vehicles only in several other states (including New York). Some LEOs have "Radar Dectector Detectors" but they can not detect the better units.

Laser Jammers are illegal in some states but legal in most.

Escort, Blinder and Laser Defender make laser jammers that are at least somewhat effective. Laser Jammers need to be hardwired into the car.
There is a product called "Laser Veil" that can be used to coat your headlights and your license plate and that will absorb a lot of the laser energy and prevent it from being reflected back. Laser Veil plus a jammer is probably the best defense.

A quick summary.

Jammers legality:
o Radar jammers illegal everywhere, both active and passive -- FCC rules. BTW, passive jammers don't work.
o Laser jammers are legal at the federal level, but some states have outlawed them. Check your state. Never heard of passive laser jammers, but darker colors, odd angles and some coatings will make it hard for laser to reflect. However, all cars have some area that will reflect laser light; usually headlights, foglights (if they have them) and license plates.

Detector legality:
o For passenger cars legal in the US, except VA, DC and military bases.
o For commercial vehicles over 10,000 lbs (???) illegal everywhere in US.

Best detectors:
o Valentine 1
o Bel STi driver
o Escort 9500Ci and 9500ix
o Escort Redline
-- Valentine 1 can be detected by some RDD, the Bel STI and Escort 9500xx and Redline can't. Keep this in mind if you travel in VA or DC.
-- Don't run two detectors at the same time.

Best jammers:
o Laser Interceptor: dual or quad, standard or HP
o Blinder: M27, M47
-- Mounting is critical -- stealth the car, not the install. Do your research.

Cheers.
