iPhone - snap in adapter
When you got your M3 with the iPhone integration option, did it come with the snap in adapter/cradle that goes in the arm rest?
I checked off the option for $150, it shows it on my sticker, but there is no actual cradle with the car... should I have gotten one? Thanks Jim

I have the connections that something attaches too, there is just a blank plate snapped in there now... it is pre-wired, but the dealer is telling me there is another part I need... hadn't heard that before.

I know, I have the same connections but that's not enough for them to just snap the adaptor in. we were victems of sales persons who didn't know what they are talking about. the guy assured me before I buy the car that it's not a problem and they'll throw the adaptor in free of charge. turns out they can't.

I ordered my car with this option as well. My understanding is that the option allows for the prewiring. due to the fact that there are many types of phones out there, you have to purchase the appropriate adapter for the phone you have. They quoted me 115.00 for the adapter for the Droid X. I havent purchased this yet, but i think it is a sham to have to purchase the option, then purchase the adapter. BMW just making money i guess.

Do not buy the iphone adapter thing if you have an iphone 4... because apple switched it so only the new adapters without the clips work...an bmw gives the special adapter.. but it has clips. theirfore it doesnt work...

6NF, Smartphone Integration, merely wires the car for a snap-in cradle in the center console. This cradle provides power, antenna connection to the shark fin (of questionable value since in many cases phones don't have RF output and so an inductive re-radiator is used), and USB connection (in addition to the one that comes as part of 6FL, iPod/USB, a required prerequisite).
A snap-in cradle appropriate for the model of phone to be used is still required and must be purchased separately. The cost varies because the nature and complexity of the cradle varies. There is no iPhone 4 cradle as of yet (unless it was literally announced in the last few days).

The phone-specific cradle is not included with the car. It only comes with the dock and a blank cover.
I didn't expect this as after checking off the smart phone integration and iPod option, I thought for sure the cradle was included. But it is not. I bought a used cradle from the Classifieds here for my 3G iPhone and it works great. I do perceive better signal strength when using the cradle. |

To the OP you just remove the clear tray or dust like cover and snap it the adaptor you bought from you me. Send me Pic on PM and I'll confirm for you. If you checked the smartphone option and the 6NF you should be good to go for the iPhone.

Another feature of this car I didn't know about, I just plug my iphone4 into the cord in the console if I want to listen the itunes...... The whole blue tooth thing is scary though especially when the girlfriend calls and the wifes in the car........ Not good!...... So can you text and access all the iphone features if you have an adapter? You figure that the sales freak would have pointed out some of these items at purchase but my guy had been selling ox carts or something and didn't know his ass from a hole in the ground.
