It was definitely worth it for me. I'm very glad I bought my car with it and that was one of the options that had to be on my car. The main thing that I notice is that you can turn it up very loud and there is hardly any distortion. You will need to tune the equalizer from the factory settings however.

On the premium sound issue, I would not have ordered it with the car. Now that I have a car with it (and have heard the non-premium system), I would definitely get it. It is a very good OEM sound system. I too like to listen to the sound of the engine a lot but when I do listen to music, I really appreciate the premium sound system.

I have it-mixed feelings about it
Sounds great with the engine off. The car is otherwise kinda a loud with wind, tire and engine noise so you don't extract the maximum benifit from the system. Nice to have it all controlled by the steering wheel and Idrive... you could probably do better with an aftermarket sytem for the money.

I think it's a good enough system and OEM. Fitting an aftermarket system is always fiddly given my E46 M3 experience. Given how much the E92 has evolved over the E46, it's best leaving it to the true professionals (in this case OEM) to deliver a system best suited for the car. Yes, we spend a fair amount of time in the car, but especially in an /// car we are there to enjoy the driving pleasure and not the music.
I think we carried away at times. Being critical is not going to make BMW call you and give a better system. You get what we pay and I am happy with my Individual Sound System. It's not fancy but adequate when you're not enjoying the sound of the S65 which is priceless.

Premium Audio Upgrade
I ordered prem audio for my 2011 M3 Conv. I hope it was worth the money. I loved my 335i Conv logic 7 especially with the top down...it took couple of months to break in the new speakers, but after it was amazingly clear and concert like...the logic 7 surround makes a huge difference in clarity and surround aspect of the sound compared to my previous convertible with high end after market sound system. I hope the M3 Premium upgrade sound has a surround sound processor similar or better that logic 7 and is not just a loud system. I will keep you all posted when I get my car around mid or end of July. I am a big-time audiophile interested in clear and surround quality not just loudness. They claim it has DIRAC Live signal with is a high-end sourround processor.
