Car's telephone mic picking up too much road noise
Anyone have trouble when using bluetooth in your M3 and having too much background noise when talking to someone on the phone? I get a lot of complaints from folks on the other end of the call saying they can barely hear me and there is a ton of road noise. I never had this (as much any way) on my old 335 w/bluetooth. I'm wondering if the car's mic has gone bad? Anyone else experience this? If so, what was the solution? New mic? Did the dealer hassle you? I'm thinking of taking mine in and having it looked at.

I'm actually pretty satisfied with the bluetooth in the M3. Everyone comments that it's pretty clear compared to some other cars.

Dealer always said that it was working fine. took it in 3 times. Even talked to the dealer over the BT system and they couldn't hear me but the techs would always blame it on my phone.

^ that's my fear...that they will say "that's how it's supposed to work"...obviously it's not right. I've had 2 other BMW's before this one, both with bluetooth and the background noise was a 100% better than the M3. I think something is wrong with it...guess I'm going to have to plead my case and see if they will replace some parts for me. It's gotten so bad that I no longer use it as it annoys callers on the other end so much.

Have you done some comparisons, like how it sounds when stopped vs at highway speed or how it sounds on an asphault road vs a concrete road?
That might allow you to determine if it's an equipment issue. Perhaps try a different phone by using a friend or family members phone.

^ I've paired about 3 different phones and they all exhibit the same road noise when moving..obviously the sound is better when the vehicle is stopped.

Unless I'm going over rough concrete, when road noise gets pretty intrusive, bluetooth works great as long as you have your windows/moonroof closed and HVAC fan less than full blast. You can control the volume with the stereo volume while in use, in case you didn't know.

Yes, I always have my windows up (don't have a mooroof) and try to make the vehicle as quiet as possible when placing a call...it doesn't seem to matter. It's not the sound on my end...it's how loud it is to the person on the other end of the call that complains about the road noise. And it's not just one person complaining...everyone complains about it.
