Winter Tire Thread '09
People are starting to think about winter setups for the M3. The Blizzak LM25's, a favorite from last year, are on a closeout special. They will be replaced in most sizes by the LM60. I do not know much about the LM60's yet, but they should be at least a little bit of an upgrade.
TPMS (Tire Pressure) sensors are available for $49 each currently. You can run a winter package without them, but be prepared for the annoyance of the light all the time, and a chime on startup. It is still early, but I am getting a lot of PM's about this suddenly, so I figured I'd open up the discussion.

Ben, what is available for the 19" rim stock rims? Seeing that Jack and I are in the same city, he has been gracious to pay for both of our shipping costs.

19's are always a challenge for snows. Pirelli says they will do the 270 Sottozero S2 for the stock 19" sizes. Will they actually build them? Not sure right now.

I'm running 19" Pirelli 240 Sottozero on the Porsche for winter. Those combined with the AWD make for a great winter driving experience.

What are the minimum and maximum winter tire sizes for the OEM 18's? My understanding is BMW suggestst 235s all around for winter tires, will this size fit?
I am planning on using the 18's for winter and track wheels.

There was a thread on here where someone ran 245 all around for their winter setup on the oem 18's. There's a bit of a stretch on the rears apparently. I'm wondering if the 9.5 rear will accomodate 235 tires properly.

I would be really surprised if you could get 235s to work on an OEM 18 rear. |

"According to the Blizzak website the LM60's will come in a number of 19" sizes. I was thinking about sticking with 19" wheels and getting 235 front and 255 rear. Any major issue with that? I know the recommendation is to not stagger but i don't really want to drop to a 245 in the back."
This is a PM I recieved, I am posting here so that all you 19" people can benefit. 255/40R19 rear will be a good size for the LM60 on 19" wheels. *Edit:* I missed the fact that there are also 265/35R19 coming, which would be identical to stock. 235/35R19 will exist, but that is a bit short. Would be an OK size for front. Here is a list of all LM60's expected to be available this year: http://www.tirerack.com/a.jsp?a=AW8&...=Blizzak+LM-60

You're right, I deal with the 18's too much, and accidentally focused on the 40 series. Edited original post.

When I go through the website for winter tire/wheel packages, there is only one wheel choice shown, with a default smaller than OEM size of 18x8 front and 18x9 rear. I was interested in what other wheels might be available. When I search separately for wheels however, it only lets you search by vehicle, which defaults to the 'normal' 18x8.5 and 18x9.5, but these are larger than the recommended sizes for snows.
How do I see what else is available in wheels for the M3 that fit the smaller snow tires?

Ben, last year you recommended the Sport Edition A7 in the 18" size. Your website does not show that wheel this year. Will you have it in stock? Also, is a BMW roundel available to fit in the wheel? Thanks.
