M3 CSL?

My neighbor's boyfriend has an E46 M3 with a bunch of AC Schnitzer stuff on it. I see it all the time in her garage parked tail-in. The other day, it was parked front-in and I noticed that the rear badge said ///M3 CSL.

People on this forum seem to drool over the CSL so it peaked my curiosity. Went inside and hit up Wikipedia and it said that the CSLs were not sold in the North American market.

So what gives? Is this an import, is Wikipedia wrong, or did someone do a bunch of mods on a regular E46 M3 then slapped a CSL badge on it?

I know that the ///M badge has been replaced because the ///'s are various forms of gray instead of the usual.

What do you think? Real deal or poser?

I put an "AMG" badge on my old M3 once just to mess people like you up.

So that's why I'm asking here.

he probably just put the CSL badge on it.

as others said, when you see him, ask him. If he gives you the run around, then he is b.s.-ing you.

correct, no e46 M3 CSLs were ever sold in the states. There is only one that I know of that was imported into the US - and i believe it was in Florida.

snap some pics if you can and post them on here - the audience on here will surely give you their assessment

+1
It was on eBay a few months back. It was the real deal and was sold to a collector from what I understand

They can be imported...not a simple process. Could be the real deal.

I'll see if I can catch some pics next time it's out. I usually see it when I'm washing my car every other Friday. If there is only 1 in the states, I'm sure that this isn't it! lol

My point is that if this guy's "CSL" has a moonroof which I suspect it does, that's a pretty good giveaway that it's not a CSL.

It wasn't in the garage tonight, so I couldn't see... But I think I recall seeing a moon roof on there.

CSL's only came in Silver Gray and Carbon Black. Exterior will have a single opening in front bumper for air intake on driver's side. carbon fiber splitters and cfrp roof. no moon roof. duck tail rear trunklid. thats all easy to copy. the interior is the hard part. carbon fiber door panels and center console with no armrest. only came in SMG. carbon fiber fixed back recaro seats covered in alcantara.

Most likely your neighbor's car just has a badge on it. no one would import a CSL to US and then put ACS parts on it. If it has fog lights up front, its not a CSL. If it has a manual transmission its not a CSL. If it doesn't have a carbon fiber roof, its not a CSL.

They were sold in europe and asia. Both Right and Left hand drive.

Yes, rule #1 for CSLs, no schnitzer
