Thanks so much for posting this. I'm currently contemplating doing this...however, I had one big question - What do you do with the remaining oil? I'm not sure how to store it before disposing?

I recently went through a change, a few recommendations: 1. buy 2 new drain plugs (about $1.77), if this is your first change, likely the dealer may have overtightened it and you might strip your drain bolt. 2. order a oil analysis kit from blackstone. Start taking oil samples at every change, it'll give you a preview of major issues with the engine. If you change the oil before the kit arrives, store it in a container and then transfer it to the kit. Last edited by mdosu; 07-02-2013 at 01:30 PM.. |

Thanks for the feedback guys. Might have to do a brake job in the coming months, so I will try my best to make a video for that as well.
And to answer the question about what to do w/the remaining oil...buy a pan just like the one I had in the video (make sure it can hold >9 quarts, some are small!). You can take the container to an auto parts store and they'll dispose the oil for you. |

I might have missed it in the video, but what are the two drain plugs install torque values?

Thanks for the vid, OP.
A little off topic, but what all are you guys using for an oil change interval? I believe the dealer recommends 7,500, which feels 2,500 too late for me. Mini recommended 10,000 which was great because I could change it myself at 5,000, let the dealer do it at 10,000, myself at 15,000, etc. Things get trickier with a 7,500 factory-recommended change interval. (If that is, in fact, the interval.) |
