I have driven stock & modified GT-Rs at regular speeds but never at high speeds so I was expecting to lose for sure.

Well I guess the point is: people with little or no GTR experience are surprised and people that own first gen R35s aren't. A stock M6 will hang(and probably even gain a little) with an 09 GTR above 100.
