Nissan GT-R still quick with updated launch control :

The internet has been abuzz with chatter ever since it was revealed that Nissan had updated the software that governs the GT-R's launch control and was instructing all of its dealers to reprogram every vehicle in dealer inventory that had yet to be sold with the new software in a bid to keep additional transmissions from grenading.

The changes limit the maximum RPM that the car will sustain with the VDC switched off to around 3,500, a big reduction from the 4,500 limit of the old programming. Additionally, the software update adds a new, safer form of launch control that allows takeoffs at 3,000 RPM while the VDC remains active. Inquiring minds want to know: Would those alterations still allow the GT-R to hook up hard enough to reverse the earth's rotation at the drags?

We have some good news to share with Godzilla owners that are contemplating whether or not to have their cars updated with the new software. A bone-stock GT-R with the reprogramming has been timed at 11.34 @ 120.85 MPH with an excellent 1.69-second 60′ time. That result compares rather favorably with quarter-mile runs recorded by cars with the initial launch control programming. Thanks for the tip, ViperACR!

Good to know. Even adjusting for standard day conditions, it's below 11.60 at over 118 mph.

Sounds like the entire "GT-Rs are either rolling grenades or slow" idea can be laid to rest.

Well those figures are as good as before and prove that the re-programming hasn't dulled the performance of the car, at least know Nissan should be standing over claims from now on and it might finally put to bed the constant back bitting that the Nissan GTR is a fake.

I wonder if that run was with the VDC on or off. Either way, where are the naysayers? Oh thats right, they're tired of discussing it now! Haha, I wonder how tired yal would be if this was a thread about another grenaded tranny?

2009 Nissan GT-R Updated Official 0-60mph Time - Breaking News

The Nissan GT-R is fast, no doubt about it. In a straight line and around a track but one metric that sticks in everyone’s mind is the 0-60mph time. It’s easy to understand and it’s easy to remember. One number for one test.

When the Nissan GT-R launched in 2007 and 2008 it set a new benchmark in performance in terms of bang for the buck. It’s official 3.5 second 0-60mph time was certainly in supercar territory.

Cut to this year when the MY2009 update (US MY2010) comes along offering increased horsepower, slight handling changes and revised software in the transmission control unit (TCM). These changes are now on sale in Japan and are being delivered to GT-Rs in the US and Australia shortly.

Back to the 0-60mph time, given the drastic change with how the car launches itself from a standstill installed in every MY09 GT-R it’s only fair to retest the 0-60mph, and that’s what the guys at the Nissan Tochigi Assembly plant have done.

On the 15th of February on the Nissan Tochigi plant test track, Nissan’s test driver clocked a 3.3 second 0-60mph run in a standard 2009 Nissan GT-R.

Utilising the new, more driveline friendly launch method, the GT-R was setup in R transmission, R suspension and R VDC modes. That’s right, VDC was on.

We’re told the official announcement will filter down through Nissan Japan shortly.

Oh yeah, and it ran the ring in under 7:00 minutes.

I think someone said something along the lines of 'great they have resolved the problem', yeah well considering the rap they have got on this and other forums I just wished BMW were as quick to resolve our gearbox problems. The M3 is almost a year now with the DCT and no quick fix in sight.

Hmm, AFAIR I got one of the first West Coast (US) M-DCT cars and I got it in May, that makes it 10 months maximum. As well the update is only about 5 months old. The timeliness of the releases as well as BMWs history of multiple releases for other cars bodes well for future DCT updates.

Debbie Downer vs. Mr. Optimistic, I guess.

Not really Debbie Downer, just someone who a couple of weeks ago though his car was cured.

Call it sour grapes at the moment. Though you must admit I wasn't one the usual guys complaining about the lag so on this front I am definitely not a Debbie Downer.
