The truth of the matters is, most of the people on this board do not routinely drive their cars in the way that are tested in the magazines. Yes, the IS-F takes last place in a lot of comparison tests; but to see that as a negative is like saying that taking 4th place in the World Olympics is not an accomplishment.
I think it is a very, very good car, and an excellent effort from a company that's never really built a car like this since the Supra. Truth be told, it's all subjective. |

4th place in the Olympics means going home without a medal - all that work just to fail!

No annoying nose dive from high speeds and feels quicker off the line, not sure on a roll though, that would have to be determined with an actual pull. But for me I'd buy the M3 over the ISF, not that the ISF is a bad car the M3 is just better. |

+1
I just wish I can take home the following car for a 24 hr test drive e92 M3, C63 AMG, ISF, RS4, and a used 06 Carrera S Im not greedy I linger around the C63 AMG at times, but the Gas Tax at $2600, gas mileage and AMG's worst depreciation record just does not feel right. ex. I was offered a used certified 07 CLK 63 AMG cabrio w/ 2600 miles for around $64k. Its a $95k MSRP car last year.

The fact is the ISF does not have gas-guzzler tax and its EPA ratings are 24mpg highway. Granted it is not real world mileage like you said. But it think the high revving nature of the M3 is what hurts it, but at the same time most of us would prefer it, after all it is a high performance car, we're not buying this car for the gas mileage. When your buying a car that does 0-60 in 4.1 and 1/4 mile in 12 seconds, you shouldn't care about the gas mileage.

I am glad to see by the almost 73% vote for the M3 that the large majority of people understand that its the complete package that counts. handling, stopping, steering, LSD, 8 individual throttle bodies, etc, that makes the car. not only the straight line acceleration in a 1/4 mile on a flat surface.

I'm sure the ISF is a nice car.....but no thanks...... Since I fully intend to track my M3....and by track I mean road course, with the occasional drag strip.... So I want the balance of the M3....

Thnks to saym3, ggb and the rest of the good crowd here that I resisted the ISF and C63 AMG temptation.
I got my Prod# started today 15 May, thks to Asad@Fairfax BMW. takes about a week to produced and then the long agony of a 5-6 PDC transport wait, which I dont really mind they can take as much time as they want now. for I know my already a e92 M3 owner now

They opened a new research center etc. when they started but now in the 8th season they stil have to win one single race. The best they did was the 2005 season and after that it has just been down. I know that BMW is not wining it all but they have not been spending the same amount of money as Toyota. I do however believe BMW is spending more and more on F1 -- and they are now place 2nd in the constructors championship. Want I am saying is that fortunately you can't buy success. It takes more than that. Of course money is important but it is not enough. |

The ISF has a Camry clock!
There's one reason not to buy the car.

Personally, I drove the ISF, at Lindsay Lexus just like the OP. I thought it was an amazing car, until I drove the M3. Now that I have driven the M3 hard and on very challenging asphalt, it is my opinion that the M3 is a far superior performance coupe than the ISF. Remember, the M3 chasis and engine is actually used to compete in professional motorsports; this is a fact and a true testament to the performance capability of the "m3 package"; we are talking about competitive racecars who use the actual m3 chassis and engine (less crank). How many GT class racecars do you know of that use an ISF chassis? Engine? Lexus ISF is a nice car and makes a great Gran Tourer. The M3 is in a different class. -SZ |
