Laugh this off guys:

I originally intended to inform the community about my maintenance issues over 100K miles. While I really don't give a crap about some of the troll comments on here, this thread might just have been thread jacked beyond any sort of usefulness. Barring any more useful/serious posts, this will be my last post on this thread. For those interested, note that the oem springs are covered by a thin black rubber. Once this rubber has pealed off (over quite a bit of time), the exposed metal rusts, then cracks, allowing moisture in. For people in harsh winter climates, the moisture, and road salt gets in and in a few freeze thaw cycles, the spring will crack all the way through, so the breaking might be a little faster than people in warmer climates.

You said you've got another set of springs, that your problem will be taken care of within an afternoon, and you've made it clear in the OP that there's a potential issue. I don't get the issue with posting a few jokes and light comments. You didn't ask for advice, help of any sort and judging from you saying you've got replacement springs ready to go sound like in your case it's a minor issue. Yes thanks for the heads up and other than a few joking comments what else would you expect beside a million thank yous and good lucks (which you don't need)

Jesus, dude. Relax.

The springs are crap on these cars. One of the rears, had a big patch of rust similar to the one in front that broke. That one probably would have gone at any time. The other 2 had small patches developing. It's just a good idea to ditch em at 100K miles, if still rolling stock.

Several cars, and trucks around here, been on the road for decades, and the springs didn't break. I'm willing to forgive it based on the fact that it's the M3, and they probably didn't think it'd be road driven in these conditions, but still.

in chinese, we have something called "Car Quake". It means doing the dirty in your car. I suggest OP upgrade to at least Clubsport dampers with 800/1200 springs for future sessions.

It's comments like these that made me leave this thread. Looks like I'll take another vacation.
